Marley was at the door when a hand clamped down on her arm. Leo was right in front of her, his strong jaw tight and his green eyes swimming with remorse, "Just..." he paused, his mouth opening and closing, "I'm sorry." he said finally, releasing her at the same time.
Marley's blood boiled. He humiliated the most important person in her life.
"You don't know...she was finally comfortable here, and you may have ruined it, Leo."
Marley watched his eyes squeeze shut briefly. She turned on her heel, sprinting down the stairs and out the door, knowing that Gabby was outside somewhere.
She skidded to a halt halfway down the main trail to the mess hall, when a thought crossed her mind.
Gabby would want to be alone. The only place where she would find that around here is the clearing they saw by the laundry cabins the other day. Everywhere else would be either too close to the trails or the main hangouts like the beach or the soccer and football fields.
