Chapter 6

I stirred at Nick opening the car door for me to enter, while his driver stood there dumbfounded. I was embarrassed, and it was evident on my contours.

Sitting on the fluffy chair, I made sure to buckle my seatbelt. Whirling my head to face him do the same, I demanded in a sweet voice;

"Sir, where are we heading too?" I watched him tense as he didn't want to tell me as if hiding it from me.

"Nowhere special, maybe just going to chill". I avoided his eye contact as he said this, trying to hold my gaze.

This was awkward, like how can a girl like me flirting in town with Mr. Larry. To any slay queen, this will be an outstanding achievement but to me, I just felt like being nosy as to hover around him this way.

'What did I do to merit this man's attention?', I wondered not understand what I did to deserve this.

"Sir, you know chilling is an awkward thing for me to do, especially on how low class I am, our social status matters a lot". I said shaking my head, not believing what he just said.

Nicholas didn't say much, he just looked out of the window sulking in his breath. It's like he didn't hear what I said, or he was just saving his strength.

"Will you say something or should I ask the question once more?" I fired pouting as I crossed my arms around my chest.

At least, this made him talk still not looking at me.

"If you exert a little patience, you'll see for yourself" he let out on a serious note with a scowl on his face.

I kept quiet, as he instructed the driver giving him some directives, to take us to God knows where. I watched the driver pull out of Bepanda Omnisport, changing his direction heading towards Diedo. I felt relaxed as I knew this area so well, till he took another strange turn leading towards Bonamoussadi.

My eyes brightened up as I watched him alight in front of Boulangerie Saker. So this that the almighty place we were going to, just a bakery, not any kind of bakery, quite an exquisite place.

Stepping out of the car, I followed this broad back closely, as he climbed the first three steps, holding my hand. I felt embarrassed, yet I didn't know the right way to tell him to let my hand free. So gulping my fears, I let him pull me towards the inside.

The inside was beautiful and the sweet smell of cake and baked bread greeted my nostrils so much I had to do a little "hummm, smells good". I didn't know I had said this loud till I heard the chuckles.

"You can pick whatever you want, I will pay". Nicholas announced still wearing a smile in his contours.

This was a great offer and anyone in my shoes would grab it, the smile I had on was so imaginary.

"Thank you, Sir," I said walking over to the cake glass, filling my eyes with different flavors as I considered which one will be good to eat.

"Please help me choose," I said to him scratching my hair, making it to be messy.

"Fine, I'll advise you take the chocolate cake". He suggested, making me to feel comfortable around him.

"What will you take?" I asked him, and he stuttered, reflecting on it himself.

"Nothing, I am fine you know?" I didn't take that as an answer considering the fact that he did not eat much from his lunch, I ordered the girl who was serving to wrap to chocolate cakes.

The cost was one thousand francs for both, so I removed my money paying it before Nicholas could.

I saw how embarrassed he was as his hand still remained in his chest pocket, mouth gaping at how audacious I had been. The girl behind the counter just stared at us, unable to offer a word.

Carrying our wrapped cakes, I led the way out of the bakery, sitting beneath their leisure desks. This one gave us a clear view of the road, that was why I chose it. Removing an Oran (a tissue packet), I removed one and cleaned my chair, giving the packet to Nicholas to do the same.

Nicholas did not understand at first, but when he saw my actions, he just imitated. I noticed he did it wrongly, so, I woke up from my chair, walking around the table to help him, as I muttered under my breath;

"Even to wipe a chair is above him". He heard anyway, and he cleared his throat to that.

"Sorry Sir, I do not have money for drinks, so we are bound to eat this cake dry". I said unwrapping my cake.

The look on his face was void, as I didn't know whether he was happy or not. Then he stood up, excusing himself. I watch him enter the bakery once more, but had no idea about what he was going to do in there until I saw him coming out with two sodas. I was astonished by what I saw and regretted why I even said it at all.

"I didn't know what you like, so I took three flavors, make your choice Madam". He let out, putting the cans on the table. He had chosen: Fanta, Coke, and Sprite. So me too, I got confused about what to take.

I hovered my hands around the cans, doing a funny childhood song, trying to know which one to choose.

"And the first shall be the last and the last shall be the first". It landed on the Coke and I picked it up, separating it from the rest.

This was the last straw that broke the camel's back. This my little act made him burst out laughing throwing his head behind. I was embarrassed as I had shown my uncouth nature in front of this wealthy man, and he was now mocking my personality.

"Megan, I think I like you, and I am growing fond of you already". He said smirking as he opened a bottle of Fanta.

"Thank you, Sir," I responded to his compliment as I took a bite of my cake. It was yummy, the best I've had in a while.

"I've got something to show you" I heard Nicholas saying as he searched his inner pocket.

"What is that?" I inquired as I saw him remove my Journalist card from his pocket.

"That belongs to me, how did you get it?" I questioned trying to grab it, but he pulled it away.

"You will pay for it" he threatened, making me stop chewing the cake in my mouth.
