Back in the bunker, we were in front of the exact same vending machine. Meanwhile, Sawyer had the idea of putting items besides money in the vending machine. The item chute was big enough not to only accept money, but also other things. It could be advantageous to some extent if he was right.
Sawyer opened the day pack where he stole a bunch of jewelry from the mansion where he assassinated someone. Gold earrings, necklaces, and even gold teeth were put on the side of the machine. The result was as expected, money got deposited into our account. The amount couldn't be said to be small either. Even then, we still keep 10,000 Arleum in our pocket.

"Hmm, GPNVG-18?" I commented. It was one of the most expensive items that a soldier could carry. Back in the military, even one piece of GPNVG-18 night vision goggles cost around 40,000$ or more.
Still, it could be advantageous in the event of a night battle since there would be no light source, and using a flashlight would practically expose yourself to the enemy. So, a night fighting device would be more than useful in this condition where the enemy wouldn't even have an equal amount of technology.
A basic night-vision device would still be very expensive though, it could cost as much as 5,000$ at the very least. There was not even a guarantee where we would need it in the near conflict. Still, I'd put it on the investment list.
"Are you joking? You'll eat up most of our budget," Sawyer protested, "You better buy an armor for yourself, what do you want to buy?"
"Same as you, of course, the more similarity between our equipment, the easier it would become," I replied.
"Ok," Sawyer pressed the button to dispense the armor with the same exact specification.
The armor that both Sawyer and I wore was quite modular to a certain extent, meaning we could ditch the extra protectors in exchange for more mobility on the battlefield. Still, for the most part, we would be involved in a defensive situation. So, in that case, heavy armor would be needed.
Plus, it looked like we and Sumia were the only ones who had the most probability of defending the village when a wave of the enemy attacked. The other villagers would be most likely looking for safety.
I put on the armor alongside the protectors. It was heavy, yes, but it would be way better than having an arrow impaled to your chest that would involve a complicated surgery that only I could do.
"What kind of weapons we should own, eh?" I asked Sawyer.
The M16 was decent, but for defensive purposes, I wanted a machine gun at the very least as a force multiplier. The M16 would overheat way too quickly under heavy fire. Plus, I might need to throw 2,000 rounds in one go.
For that reason, a machine gun would be the best weapon to be bought at the moment. Personally, I'd buy the MG4 machine gun. It was the standard weapon in my old unit. I was also quite familiar with the weapon itself.
So, I bought the gun.
I opened the vending machine, revealing the MG4. It was a machine gun chambered in the same ammunition type as the M16. For logistical reasons, the 5.56 would be better in this situation.
"Cool gun," Sawyer commented.
"Thanks."
The gun had already been loaded with bullets. The bullets were black-tipped, suggesting that the bullets loaded were the armor-piercing variant of the bullets which used tungsten core to act as a penetrator.
As usual, it was kept inside a 200-round box. However, I needed way much more than that. Probably, I'd need around 1,000 rounds at each engagement. So, I bought 800 rounds of 5.56 M995 ammunition. In total, I spent around 9,500 credits on all of those things.
"This is quite a hefty amount of purchase, gee," Sawyer commented as I picked up the machine gun and attached the ammo pouch to my ballistic vest.
"Can I buy a scope, too?" I asked Sawyer.
"Sure, why go half-assed?" Sawyer said.
I bought an Elcan Specter 1-4x scope for 3,000 credits. So, in total, all of this equipment cost around 12,500 credits. If this was how much it would cost to equip one soldier, how much would it cost us to equip more than the two of us?
The guns were cheap, but the other equipment was holy fuck expensive. If suddenly I wanted to recruit the whole village as a defensive force, I'd need 100,000 Aureum. Damn, I hoped there would be a harder quest for us on the getgo. Or else, I wouldn't be able to fund money for a self-defense force.
"Anything else that you want to buy, Alfie?" Sawyer asked.
"Hmm, what do you want to buy, Sawyer?" I asked.
"Well, let's see," Sawyer said.
Sawyer put multiple items in his shopping basket. The value of those items was spectacular, but it might be because Sawyer's job was to assassinate and to kill. However, I felt that the equipment was still quite expensive.
[2x AN/PVS-31A NVG]
[1x Mount]
[1x KAC 5.56 Suppressor]
[2x Avon FM53 Gas Mask]
[2x AN/PRC-148 Handheld Radio]
Total: [35,000 Credits]
He clicked purchase and two items appeared. One was a night-vision goggle alongside its mount, and the other was the suppressor for his M16. Overall, a very expensive purchase, and hopefully, be useful. I grabbed one of the gas masks, the filter was already attached to it.
"For glasses and a big tube..."
"Well, yes? What are you really expecting?" Sawyer responded.

That was the leftover money that we had. Hopefully, this would be enough to buy any spare equipment that we needed. I brought the machine gun out of the bunker while Sawyer put his NVG on his helmet. We still needed to attend the banquet with the others.
