Chapter 1: The Scent of Change

Kai organized the pile of law books on his desk, feeling the smooth leather covers with his fingertips. The university library, his safe haven away from the outside world, was a place of solace where he could concentrate on his academic pursuits and his goal to reform the harsh omega laws ruling over his community. His resolve remained firm, however, the hidden truth he held was a weighty load to bear as he was an omega, a vulnerability he couldn't risk revealing in his society.

The only sounds in the library were the gentle rustling of pages and sporadic whispers of students. Kai was deep in contemplation when he saw a shadow cast over his desk. Glancing upwards, he made eye contact with Ryuu, the new teaching assistant who had just started working at the school. Ryuu was known for his reputation - he had a strong, authoritative demeanor that inspired both fear and respect among his colleagues. "May I sit here?" Ryuu's voice was silky with a hint of intensity that caused Kai's stomach to knot.

Kai answered negatively, attempting to maintain a neutral tone. He motioned towards the unoccupied seat next to him, despite not feeling particularly sociable.

Ryuu settled into his seat with careful nonchalance, his eyes staying on Kai for an extended period.

"I couldn't avoid noticing the effort you've been putting in." The legal changes you are analyzing have great aspirations.

Swiftly, he averted his gaze, redirecting his attention to his notes.

Ryuu made Kai uneasy, yet there was something intriguing about him that Kai couldn't resist. As time went by and Ryuu stayed close by, Kai couldn't rid himself of the sensation of being observed, and he detected the faint yet lingering smell that appeared to intensify as time passed.

When the library started to clear out, Ryuu got up and his manner changed from serious to relaxed almost instantly. He expressed that he would like to sit in the same spot again, with a slightly more personal tone.

Kai managed to put on a polite smile. "Absolutely not."

Ryuu gazed at Kai a little longer before he departed, leaving Kai lost in his own thoughts. The meeting had been short yet important, and Kai sensed it was just the start of a challenge to everything he had defended fiercely.

While packing up and getting ready to go, Kai made a decision to keep his secret well protected.
