CHAPTER 19: ORKUMAGA IS NOW IN THE UNIVERSITY.

Few months after graduating from the secondary, Orkumaga's choice to become a leader made it easy for him to decide on which university to choose from so many of the universities that gave him scholarships. He decided to choose one of the best university in Nigeria from Benin City named Future Leaders University. His father Mr. Martins known that it was the university he chose, asked him why of all the university in the world it was the Future Leaders University he chose but Orkumaga answered back his father and told him that, he wants to fulfill his dream of becoming a leader and that was the reason he chose the Future Leaders University to go and explore leadership qualities. His father squawked and told him that, he would want him to go to a law school but again, he said to his father that, it will not be his choice. Orkumaga again, repeated by explaining to him that, he desire to become a leader.

When his father heeded as he certainly and vehemently said that his dream is to become a leader, he conceded and told him that, he's free to make his choice and immediately they commenced processing for his admission as he was already allotted a scholarship to study free.

When he finished processing admission, a free standard apartment was given to him to stay. Few weeks after been admitted, Orkumaga was matriculated and immediately he started receiving lectures. While studying, his parent phoned and advised him to always maintain the same status as he was named the best student in secondary school. They advised him again to resist dangerous guys that may come looking for his troubles and he agreed. He put his all and was always serious about his studies but one evening, while he went out to read in the hall, he met 2 guys who were also bluffing to be reading. He ignored and concentrated on his book.

As he was reading, 2 young guys with heavy music earpieces in their ears moved forward and greeted him. He greeted them dashingly and again, concentrated on his studies while the 2 guys stood there staring at him without uttering a word.

When he was done with his reading, he told the 2 guys that he wants to go back to the hostels and they agreed but told him they liked him. Hearing that, he thanked them and made his way out of the hall.

While he was going, the 2 guys dabbed him and anchored with their hand but he pretended as if he did not understand what they did and left them in the hall.

He continued studying hard. Although in the class, he was not the talking type... Always quiet but a brilliant student.

One day.... While they were in the class, one of the lecturers asked a question about leadership. He asked the students to explain the leadership qualities one must posses to become a good leader.

All the students made their attempts but none was able to give him a convincing answer and then, the lecturer told the whole class that if all of them fails to give him the answer, the whole class should take it that they have failed his test. He said he is ashamed of them as none of them was even making sense When he said that, many students started putting up their hands as it was now a test .

Even as the students started giving their answers, none was able to please the lecturer as all the students that gave their answers were said by the lecturer that, they were partially correct.

The lecturer again said he's giving one more Opportunity for one student to make another attempt but said if the last person also fails , the whole class would fail his test. When he said that, many students raised their hands again including Orkumaga. He put up his hand and immediately he was given permission by the lecturer to talk.

As he was given opportunity to talk, he stood up and closed his eyes and then started explaining the question that was thrown for the whole class.

While he was answering the question, the lecturer told him to pause and then sent one of the student to go and bring a chair for him to sit.

When they brought the chair, the lecturer told him to sit on it and continue and he immediately sat on it and continued.

When he finished explaining, the lecturer sighed and again, asked him where he came from and he immediately told him that he's a Tiv boy from Benue state. After he answered, the lecturer held his hand and told the whole class that, Orkumaga is the greatest student he had ever taught and then asked the whole class to clapped for him and they all did as he was their savior.

After the lectures, the lecturer asked the whole class who they would want to be their course rep and they all shouted Orkumaga's name for more than 5 times.

When he heard that it was Orkumaga they chose, he told the students that they have made the right choice and then immediately Orkumaga was made the course rep.

Few days after Orkumaga was made course rep, in the evening, as usual as he was always going to read. He went there alone to read and as he was reading, the 2 course mates who he once met in the same hall the other time were again there. As they saw him, they welcomed him and again, shifted closed to him.

After they strode closed to him, they greeted him again, and introduced themselves to him that they ate also his course mates. He asked them their names and one of them told him that his name is "Trigger'' The other said his name is "Weapon" When he heard their names, he asked them to tell him their real names as he was their course rep but they refused and told Orkumaga that they are guys and so, they know the names they wants to be addressed and not the local names they were given by their parent. When Orkumaga heard that, he said okay and again, said to them that he was there to read and not for any other thing and immediately took his book and began to read without wasting his time to listen to what they were saying but when they saw that he was not giving them attention, they left the place without saying a word to him. Few days later, early in the morning, Orkumaga went to buy something and was coming back to the hostels and then, met the 2 of them on the way...They greeted him and stretched their hands to shake him but he ignored their handshake telling them he doesn't shake early in the morning and that made them furious but they managed to curb themselves.

Every day they went to lectures, they go to Orkumaga but he kept on ignoring them and so, they scheduled to talk to him in the evening the time he usually goes to read but as they saw him in the hall reading in the evening, they hurried to where he was sitting and made attempt to talk to him but Orkumaga seen that, asked them why they don't read but keeps coming to the hall to disturb him.

When they heard that, both of them felt rejected and yelled at him with resentment and "What do you think you are?" But Orkumaga kept quiet and uttered no word and again, Weapon squealed and asked him " What made you think that you are better than us?" When he heard that, Orkumaga again said to them that, he is not better than them but he wants to be left alone.

When they heard that from Orkumaga, Trigger now told him that he's messing with them and again reminded him that his name is "Trigger'' and Weapon also told him that his name is "Weapon".

After telling Orkumaga their names, they again told him to go and check the meaning of their names in the dictionary so that he will get that to his dry skull and start behaving normal. As they were saying all that Orkumaga still said nothing.

They went on and threatened to deal with him but as they were talking, Orkumaga paid no heed to them but instead began to read his book. They left Orkumaga alone after telling him that "We shall see"

Few days after Trigger and Weapon had threatened Orkumaga, On the wake keep of one of their mate's father's burial, all his mates were in the attendance and for Orkumaga, he was not the ilk of person that attends burials but due to the fact that it was his course mate's father, and also for the fact that, he was the course rep, he attended the burial. But as he arrived the burial, he saw Trigger and Weapon sitting already but again, ignored them as usual as he was not ready for their troubles. So, when the 2 of them saw that he greeted almost all the students that were there without doing same to them, they whispered to each other and went to where he was sitting to greet him but he ignored them. They still kept their cool because of the respect for their mate whose his father was dead but inside them, they felt like killing him at that very moment as the anger, the fire was burning in their heart but still, they kept their plans to deal with Orkumaga. At exactly 12 AM Orkumaga called for attention of the students and told them that, he would be going to sleep to come back in the morning and all agreed because the venue of the burial was not far from the hostel but before he could take a step , the 2 had already made their way to the road he was going to follow. So as he was on the way going, with one of his course mates that picked him in his car, the 2 gangsters stopped them but because they thought they wanted a lift. When they stopped, Trigger now rushed to the front of the car and pulled Orkumaga out of the car and held him on the collar and started shouting and telling him that he has entered one chance today and also that, his time is off. But while the other students was trembling and begging them to stop what they were doing, Weapon removed his gun and pointed at him, threatening to shoot him if he didn't take his car and disappeared from there but Orkumaga told him to stay calm and stop being afraid of the little ants. When they heard as he called them little ants, Trigger now slapped Orkumaga and pushed him to the Ground but Orkumaga still laughed.

At this time his mate had already wetted his boxer with urine and was just twirling on the ground without any one to help. They pulled their trigger more than 3 times but their guns did not worked.

When they saw that their guns didn't worked, they kicked Orkumaga to the ground and ran away and then Orkumaga stood up and rushed to where his friend was laying down and helped him and again told him to feel free and stand up for them to go but his friend without looking at him to know if it was him or the other guys, still shouted and pleaded for mercy....asking them not to kill him but Orkumaga knowing he was not aware that it was him, he told him to stand for them to go that it was him Orkumaga and not the 2 bastard. When he said that the second time, theis mate now opened his eyes, turned his side and saw as it was not the gangsters. He stood up immediately and hugged Orkumaga. hugging him and crying while at this time, many people who were also going home had arrived the venue, asking them what had happened and they explained. Orkumaga now called some of his mates and told them what had happened and they all rushed to the venue but saw only the 2 of them with the other people that arrived there before them. The incident circulated the whole town and even in the burial and all the people that heard were terrified. The following day, Orkumaga called some of the lecturers and told them about the incident and it was immediately reported to the police and also to the school authorities but then, it was on monday

because, the incident happened on Friday night, the whole news was every where in the school but Trigger and Weapon were not seen in the school.

The VC of the university seen that they were not in the school, ordered the police to search for them to arrest and immediately they went to their houses and told their parents what they did and all were shocked but still none of them were at home at that moment. Ao, the police told their parents to bring them to the police station or call them any day they come back and they agreed and also assured them of not failing to do as they said.

One week after Trigger and Weapon had stayed away from home, they finally returned home but each of their parents before talking to them, informed police that they were back home before even calling them to talk to them.

Trigger's father and mother called him in the parlor and asked him where he went to for up to a week but he lied that he teavelled with his friend Weapon to his village and Weapon's parents also asked him where he went to but he lied by saying he travelled with Trigger to his village as well but as all their parents had already heard what they did, Trigger's father said to him that they put him in the university not to do a gangster job but to study. He again said to him that what so ever he choose to do, it's his future he's playing with. Immediately he said that, Trigger understood that his father was aware of what they did and then told his father that he wants to go and sleep but his father told him that, he is not going any where and as they were talking, the police who had already packed their van on the road arrived the house and immediately greeted Trigger's parents and then handcuffed him. Taking him to Weapon's house as his father was also talking to him but when they arrived his house, they immediately did the same by handcuffing him and from there, they were immediately taken to the school.

All the students were summoned by the school authorities after they had meeting.

They brought the 2 gangsters and showed them to the whole students in handcuffs, the VC of the university told the students that as they have never experienced what had happened in the school, they want to treat the case with seriousness so that it will serve as a warning to any of the students that may one day try such an act in the school...

He called on Orkumaga and his friend and asked them what happened and after they explained, The VC and all authorities said to Trigger and Weapon that, they are just civilians and so, they have nothing much to do to them but they will leave them with the police but again, told them that, from the very moment, they had already been expelled from the school. All the students started clapping and hailing the VC and without wasting time, he told the police to carry on with their duties to do what so ever they want to do with them and immediately the police took them away.

The VC now dismissed the students. All the students from that very day began to respect the powerful Orkumaga. Some even wanted to know why the guns didn't worked on him but some doubted if the guns were fake or real but he uttered no word.

weeks later, Trigger and Weapon were sentence to 10 years imprisonment for attempted murder.
