At dusk, Lu Bu'er stepped out of the Saint Hall with a stack of documents in his arms, as towering skyscrapers cast long shadows over the dust-covered ground, where light and darkness intertwined.
"Bu'er, why not discuss it with them? If it doesn't work out, you could switch careers. As long as you're not on the battlefield, there's no need to force yourself to evolve. Once I earn enough Merit Points, I can exchange them for a bottle of Divine Tree Marrow Fluid for you, right? That stuff can repair cells, maybe..."
He Sai, also carrying a stack of documents, whispered in his ear.
Lu Bu'er shook his head in response, "It's pointless, the old Priest said that the so-called Divine Tree Marrow Fluid can only repair cells that have been overused, so it can't cure my illness."
He Sai stopped talking, kicking a pebble on the ground with his foot and said softly, "Bu'er, I know my parents are no longer in this world, but actually, I don't feel very sad. After all, they divorced a long time ago, and neither of them wanted me."
"But if you were not here, I would be all alone in this world, with no relatives and surrounded by desolation."
He paused, "It's selfish to say, but I hope you can survive... at least, I shouldn't be the only orphan."
"Is that even a human thing to say?"
Lu Bu'er smiled silently, "Don't think about those things. At least I'm still alive now, am I not? One should learn to enjoy the present, at least we have the chance to be superheroes."
In fact, he didn't feel that the road ahead was bleak.
On the contrary, he saw hope.
His illness was clearly not simple, especially since he had obtained the Seeds of the Heavenly God, a suspected hidden item, in the Land of the Departed. He might as well make a breakthrough in this new world.
Understanding what happened five hundred years ago might reveal what his parents had actually done, as well as the true nature of his illness.
The current urgency was to gain access to the Seeds of the Heavenly God.
The frontline battlefield was exactly what he urgently needed.
The Cocoon Breakers left one after another. A beautiful senior named Anna gave them a lingering, affectionate glance before she left, biting her red lips and looking pitiful, clearly signaling her interest.
Probably hoping they would take more care of her.
Unfortunately, the two straight as an arrow men didn't react much, even though they were aware that their status had changed significantly from before.
Like the stack of documents they were holding.
That was a privilege they could enjoy in the new world.
One of them was that Cocoon Breakers could regularly receive advanced psychological counseling, mainly to help them adapt to the unfamiliar environment five hundred years later, to prevent them from becoming too lonely to integrate into society, leading to mental illness.
Another more interesting one was to prevent Cocoon Breakers from lacking social relationships shortly after joining the army. Therefore, the military was willing to help them rebuild families, most importantly finding a spouse. Many of the appropriate age or urgently needing to marry, particularly those women who had experienced domestic violence or were widowed, were very fond of these Cocoon Breakers, left behind by time, for being a source of wealth and easy to handle.
He Sai commented, "What's with this matchmaking?"
"It means that the army allows marriage; you might get a wife, and it might even be someone else's wife. Exciting, isn't it?"
"Holy shit!"
This sounded a little off!
"We should part ways here, take care of yourselves in the future, and be careful with people. The world has truly changed," Officer An and Boss Zhang waved goodbye to them, as they were assigned decent professions due to their medium-level talent.
They earned more every month than before.
The financial system five hundred years later had not changed much but had added a currency called Merit Points, which was originally for Evolvers but later became popular among the general populace.
Because it retained its value.
Officer An could join the Enforcement Squad, responsible for maintaining those robots. He would need to go through a period of assessment before he could gain the right to comprehend the Sacred Rhythm.
And Boss Zhang could work as a clerk for a loan company under the Morgan Group. Ever since he saw his daughter, he had become anxious, only thinking about settling down quickly to complete the handover procedures and reunite with his daughter to live together.
"Hang in there, Boss Zhang."
He Sai encouraged him, "We'll help you when the time comes."
Lu Bu'er also nodded slightly, "When we find a way."
"Just live your own lives well, don't worry about us."
Officer An and Boss Zhang waved their hands and said goodbye, turning to leave.
In fact, by virtue of the friendship they had formed in the Land of the Departed, these two adults could have leaned on the young men's help much more, given that high-level talent was indeed rare and constituted a valuable connection.
But they didn't.
They seemed to still adhere to the values from five hundred years ago.
Children are children.
Even if they have high-level talent, they are still children.
Adults, of course, shouldn't trouble the kids.
The sidewalks were bustling with people as they went their separate ways.
It was November 30th, year 534 of the New Era, and another group of Cocoon Breakers forgotten by time had come to this world. Some wept silently as they looked at their sleeping families in the Vault of Temporal Cocoons, others met old acquaintances who had also emerged from the cocoons, and two hard-up young men headed to the military, embarking on a new life they had never imagined.

The military bus rumbled down the road, and Lu Bu'er leaned against the last row of seats, yawning as he watched the scenery whisk by through the window, as if in a single glance he had seen the passage of five hundred years.
