Chapter 49: Valina
Time gradually crept back into motion, and Valina’s mind raced as she took in every bit of information she could. There were several things to consider, several things she had to accomplish, but her window to do it all would be short.
Across the square, both Tavin’s and Baelon’s powers exploded, two rushing torrents of black mist and fire, both twice as sudden and intense as before. It wouldn’t be long until the contest between them reached her, and she knew that if she didn’t avoid it there would be no way to survive the clash.
Valina’s eyes flickered across the square, searching for her next concern: The pale Bloodsold whose sole purpose, it seemed, was to keep Chalea out of the fight. He wasn’t anywhere visible from the square, which meant he was probably hiding somewhere nearby. Finding him and breaking his hold on her teacher would be crucial to win this fight.
