Chapter 42: Cunning Conversations

Eleanor’s POV.

“Holy shit,” Paul breathes out the curse next to me.

The Mancini brothers exploded the lid off of the pressure cooker we had been simmering in. We all sat silently in their beautifully warm dining room. I could feel Enzo’s eyes on me as I traced the pattern of the table’s wood grain with my eyes. My mind was reeling, processing the news that had just been dropped on us.

“We can’t use any of this,” I said quietly.

“What?” Paul asks me softly.

“None of this information can be used in a court,” I spoke up digging deep to muster up an ounce of boldness. “It would be immediately dismissed as hearsay.”

“But we have documents that prove the money being passed from person to person,” Leonardo says, holding up the pile of papers.

“How did you acquire those papers?” Exhaustion was pulling at me as I looked over at the young, handsome man. “If it wasn’t willingly provided to you, and given to you by any other means then I can’t ethically use them.”
