Chapter 7

I really haven't been thinking about the nightmare as the mess with Jen and how to get through it was all that kept my mind busy. She was my best friend, I only wanted to protect her, and the boy was clearly an idiot. I'm not saying that it was bad to spy her all night, but it was for her sake. She could have been raped.

And I'd rather have a warning from the principal than Jen with that kind of trauma. Yes, that afternoon I was called to the Rector's office and I was given a warning for fighting with another student. Turns out the boy made a complaint. When I explained the situation to the Rector, Maggi, she agreed that it was kind of a situation but I shouldn't have recurred to violence. So, he was suspended for a week and I was given a warning.

I must admit I wasn't in the best mood, things were crappy lately, I needed to talk with someone. So I tried to phone Mason once more. At the first beep he hung up the phone. That startled me. What the hell. I tried dialing once more, same thing. Was he avoiding me?

I went to the cafeteria to have dinner and hoping for a chance to see him, but he wasn't there. After, I went to the bar and he wasn't there neither. It's as if the Earth would have swallowed him. Clearly, he was avoiding me, right? I tried to think of anything that I could have done to offend him or make him angry, but nothing came up.

Life's shitty.

And turns out it could be even more shitty. When I returned to the residence, the police was there, talking to the Rector Maggi, who was in her childish panda pajamas. Both turned around and stared at me as I reached the main door.

"Good night" I said quietly as I passed through the door, praying they wouldn't be here for me.

"Skye" Called out Maggi with her brown curls on her shoulder and her black eyes staring at me as if I was the source of all her headaches. "This gentlemen want to have some words with you"

I sighed, turned around with heavy needs to cry, and walked to the officers.

"Good night officers," I began as politely as I could. "How can I help you?"

"Why don't we take a walk?" Proposed the one that wasn't wearing the uniform, I supose he was an inspector.

I nodded, put the hands on my sweater's warm pockets and followed them through the campus keeping their fast pace.

"It's about Victor, right?" I murmured as I felt my eyes burn, I tried to hold in the tears. It wasn't the moment to have a breakdown.

"Where did you hear about it?" Asked the man who was wearing one of those typical long dark coats, with short wavy dark hair and green eyes. He felt like the wolf I confronted in the bar, but different at the same time. As if he was a predator, but not the same type.

"Channel 6" I replied inspecting his looks. Attractive looks if you pay attention to his european features mixed, maybe, with asian ancestry.

"Where are my manners?" He asked with a grin as he offered his hand. "My name's James, Inspector James."

"Skye" I said firmly as I shoke his hand. He had a tight grip.

"Then I suppose you know why we are here." I nodded again, they were investigating the whereabouts of Victor, my father's assassin. "Have you seen him?"

I stopped walking. No, it's true I didn't see him, but the bruise in my neck that had recently just started healing began to burn. As if making me remember that he was there. But, was he? Or was it just a common criminal?

"No, I haven't" I finally said trying to hold my voice so that it wouldn't shake like that of a little lamb in front of the wolf with green emerald eyes. He inspected me for a second, then I pointed the residence. "I have to go back, tomorrow I have an important exam"

"Sure, I hope you'll tell us if you see him or anything about him" I nod as he extends me a card with his name and a phone number. "In case of emergency call me, I'm always on service." I kept it in my trousers' pocket after a last fast read, later I would put the number on my phone, It could come in handy. "Or if you need to talk"

I nodded as a mechanical response, then abruptly raised my head. Hold up, was he hitting on me? I confronted his gaze that showed nothing but a shiny interest, like that of an animal who is in front of a really good-looking meat but can't eat it... yet.

My face turned red when I realised his interest wasn't only professional. What. The. Heck. I mean, how old was he? Yes, he was handsome as hell but yet... Well, he didn't look over 30 years old, and I was 24 so It wasn't that bad, right? I mean, it WAS legal, right?

I kept looking at his eyes, eyes that promised me a good time and a lot of pleasure if I called the goddamned number. And my legs trembled. Stupid legs. I just hoped he didn't notice as I looked away trying to hide the blush on my stupid face.

"You aren't human" I blurted out without thinking twice, trying to distract him. His grin twisted.

"No, I'm not" He admitted getting a step closer, a step that made my stomach burn as if it was a house on fire. I couldn't think clearly.

"But you're not a wolf" His glance tilted for a second before returning to a hunger that made me go back to my horny teenager years where I was driven through my life by pheromones.

"How do you know, little lamb?" He took even a step closer, enough to whisper to my ear. "Maybe if you come with me I can show you what I am."

I snapped out of his charming seduction when those words made all of the alarms in my head started ringing like crazy, I pushed him away with more strenght than I wanted to. Enough to make a man who had an animal inside of his body trip and almost fall.

"You're interesting, little lamb" He checked his watch and clicked his tongue. "But I have to go, call me soon"

I stood there like an idiot, wondering what the heck had happened as he called the other police from affar and they went back to the city.

"I won't call you, idiot" I growled, and it felt like a small victory.

Oh, but that feeling went away that same night when I had another nightmare, and there was no one to wake me up. Jen had also disappeared.
