Chloe's Point of View
The air in the room felt thick with tension. Jonathan's words kept repeating in my head like a mantra: 'There's something I haven't told you.' The way he said it, the weight in his voice, made me feel like walls were closing in on me.
"What do you mean?" I stammered, my voice shaking slightly even though my heart pounded in my chest.
Jonathan didn't look at me right away. His hand ran through his hair while his jaw clenched tight in a stall, and all this only turned my tension a few degrees up.
"I did not want to tell you like this," he said finally, looking everywhere but into my eyes. "But after tonight. after seeing Isabella and Victor getting more involved, you deserve to know."
"Know what, Jonathan?" I kept at him, reaching in closer. "What aren't you telling me?"
