"So you are finally admitting it."
"Yes."
Kai hops off the table and rubs his neck. "Do you really know what you're doing?"
"No, not really, no."
"Then?" demands Kai, exasperated at his friend's antics.
"I," begins Raylen slowly and cautiously as if his friend will castrate him if he gets his next word wrong, "have absolutely no idea what I am doing. At the same time, I cannot stop myself."
"Raylen," says Kai coldly, "Delaney is dead and buried. No amount of money, coincidental similarities, or regret can bring her back. Do you understand?"
"Of course I do." From Raylen's expression, it's clear that he didn't expect Kai to confront him. "But Kai, I feel like you should understand. When I walk beside Janey I feel like I am on a happy date with Laney, without any resentment from either side from any one of our many fights and disagreements."
