ch.1 : Departure

August 1914

London, England

James Wilson stood on the platform, clutching his ticket and trying to process the chaos around him. The declaration of war had sent the city into frenzy. Young men, eager to serve, flooded the train stations. Jim's heart swelled with patriotism as he bid farewell to his tearful family.

"Be safe, Jim," his mother whispered, her voice trembling.

"I'll come back to you, Mother," Jim promised, hugging her tight.

As the train chugged out of the station, Jim felt a mix of excitement and trepidation. He was bound for France, part of the British Expeditionary Force.
