Chapter 37: Hiding Out

“Okay, okay!” I cried once we were far from the mansion. “Stop, now.”

Loki came to a halt, making a deep sound in his throat. He shook his head as I released the fur at his neck.

I slid off his back. My legs trembled slightly and I swayed to the side. Loki leaped forward and leaned against my side. My hand found his head, resting on him for support.

“Thanks,” I muttered, finding my feet and stepping away.

Loki snorted and then shifted back into his human form. “Are you okay?” he asked.

“Fine,” I hissed. I straightened my pajamas and ran my hands through my hair. “Okay, I’m going to go.” I motioned down the sidewalk.

“Gen, wait,” Loki said. He stepped forward and reached for me.

I growled and glared at him. “Don’t!” I snapped.

Loki sighed, dropping his arm and his eyes. “I wish you’d let me explain,” he murmured.

“There’s nothing to explain,” I said, tossing my head back. “I’m nothing but a pawn to you and to Caleb,” I whispered Caleb’s name.
