Chapter 29: Temptation

“Wake up, my angel,” Caleb’s voice purred in my ear. His fingers slipped through my hair.

I sat up and growled, scurrying away from him on the bed. “What are you doing!?” I snapped.

Caleb sat on the edge of my bed. He picked up the reddish-colored stuffed wolf, stained with fresh tears, and turned it over in his hands.

“I don’t want to see you,” I hissed. I curled my legs to my chest, making myself as small as possible, and hugged my arms around myself. In a tight little ball, maybe I could protect myself from him.

“Well, I’m still your Alpha. Despite your absence, you never joined another pack and have always been beholden to me,” he reminded me.

I wrinkled my nose and leaned as far into the pillows and headboard as I could. “Am I to be your prisoner, then?” I asked, nodding to the closed door.

“Oh, don’t be like that,” he said with a coy smile. “I’m willing to give you all the comforts, luxuries, and freedoms you could desire.”
