Chapter six

"Nah man, that's what I'm saying, these people think they can do whatever they like. I'm just saying it should not be so. Don't you think?", Elle asked her partner who was steering cautiously, what would people think if they saw a cop driving carelessly?

"I agree with you. I really do, but they got money. Literally, it doesn't make any difference…", Louis, trailed on, the words he was saying already incoherent to Elle whose attention was on the duo that just walked out of a restaurant.

"Wait, stop!!", She suddenly shrieked, cutting Louis off. "What, what happened?", He asked, his guard up thinking she saw a crime about to happen.

"Reverse the car!", Elle said, a tone higher than her normal voice, forehead against the window, intently looking outside in order to confirm that she was seeing.

Louis backed the car up just as she had commanded, and as he did, they were able to see the couple engage in a searing kiss.

"Really!?!", Elle asked no one in particular as the couple in question pulled from their embrace, looking at the patrol car as the color of the car had caught their attention.

They didn't seem too shocked to see Elle, Trisha's best friend staring intently at them. They turned their gaze and entered the waiting vehicle which the valet had stopped right in front of them.

"What, what's that! You suddenly feel like having a boyfriend?!", Louis teased ad he finally got a glimpse of what her gaze was focused on.

Elle didn't pay him any attention because what she had seen had just confirmed her suspicions.

She turned to Louis and said, " that idiot was two-timing my friend. I told her, but she was so in love with him she wouldn't even see through his lies. Start the car man, we have work to do!", Elle said, her mood suddenly taking a drastic turn.

Following her instruction yet again, Lous started the car, "So what, you planning on telling her?", he asked after they had completely merged with the traffic.

It took a while before she replied because she didn't even know herself. Shifting in her seat, Elle said, "I don't know man, let's just get through the night!".

~~~~~
"Hi Marla!", Trisha greeted the Secretary as she walked into the building.
"Hi Trisha, good morning. You came pretty early today, it's almost as if you know something happened!", Marla replied.
"What, something actually happened?", "Yeah, you didn't know?", Marla asked.
"Tell me, what happened?"
"Well, I am so happy that I'm the one who gets to break it to you, come closer…", Marla gestured with her index finger.
"I think you're going to get a promotion today!", Marla said, an earnest smile plastered on her face.
"What, a promotion, are you kidding me right now!?", Trisha asked, unable to believe that such good tiding was about to knock on her door.
"Well, go to the office, she would tell you more!", Marla said nodding her head towards the miniature CEO's office in the building.
Marla didn't actually spread tumors for once, it turned out what she said was true after all. She got promoted to a senior officer, which meant she had to move to another branch.
The branch was in the city though, something Trisha thought was fortunate. If only she knew that she would have been more fortunate if the branch was located in another city.
~~~~~

She was only at work for half a day, as she had to drive around the city to settle at her new location, Trisha was so excited to see an even bigger workspace, supportive subordinates and a comfortable distance from her home.

The day went pretty well for her, it was evident from her facial expressions and the skip in her steps. The broad smile she was wearing since that morning was still plastered on her face as she boarded her vehicle.

Her cheeks must hurt from smiling too much in just one day.

As she was about to start the engines she suddenly got a text from her mom which read 'Family meeting'.

The naive girl smiled even brighter as she hoped to announce her achievement that beautiful evening
