Porter

Porter sat at the dinner table with both hands folded and a vein popping out by the side of his head. The last minute made it two times that he had told his children to come to the dinner table and yet they kept running around playing games.

It was infuriating.

"A man who could not get respect from his offspring has failed as a father." Those were the words his father had told him multiple times when he was still alive.

He had never taken those words to heart because he never felt a need to. His children respected him and respected the words that left his mouth... back then at least.

They were barely teenagers and this was the attitude he was getting. This needed to be corrected.

Porter was about to get up when he heard a bang coming from the children's room. He ran there and just as he opened the door, his eldest son ran out and went to sit quietly at the dinner table.

The next to run out was the last born who held her head and sobbed quietly as she made her way to meet her brother.

"DIDN'T YOUR FATHER TELL YOU THREE TO GO HAVE DINNER?" A voice yelled.

Porter peeked into the room and saw his wife holding a frying pan with his second child cornered and cowering in fear.

His wife took a deep breath to calm herself down before staring at the boy like she was about to finish him off, "Before I count to three, I want you at that table. One..."

The boy immediately ran out of the room, but he was not fast enough. The moment he made it to the door, a frying pan was already hurling towards him and he fell, crashing into the wall in the corridor from the impact.

Knowing his mother too well, instead of crying there, the boy quickly ran away and just in time too. Mrs. Porter had picked up one of the kid's bicycles and thrown it.

Porter immediately ducked, narrowly avoiding it.

"Good heavens," Porter said as he looked back at the bicycle that could have claimed his head.

"Oh, I'm so sorry honey," his wife ran over to him and gave him a hug and kisses. "I didn't see you there," she smiled.

"It's fine," Porter smiled back.

"Alright," she let go of him and began to walk out. "I'll see you downstairs."

Porter stood there and watched his wife leave and could not help but release a sigh.

'She is one scary woman.'

Suddenly, Porter heard a thud on the roof. He looked up in curiosity for a while but when he didn't hear it again, he shrugged and moved to the dinner table with a smile to see his wife serving food.

Their eyes met and Porter felt warm inside. Just as he was about to take one more step...

BOOM!

Porter watched with widened eyes as a skeleton crashed through their roof and landed on the dinner table!

Nobody could react in time before the skeleton threw a punch at Mrs Porter and she flew back and hit the wall with a loud bang!

Mikel quickly turned to Porter only to see a long sword about to cut through him!

Spotting the face behind the attack, Mikel could not help but curse his luck.

Two years ago...

~BOOM!!!!

Mikel relaxed in his seat despite hearing the loud explosion that sounded from the headphones he had on.

On his screen, his in-game character was standing on a tall wall and was watching a large army of skeletons running toward it.

Far in the background were multiple colossus in their base form.

At the top of his screen was an ongoing mission notification;

[Mission: protect Mudilona walls until reinforcements from the capital arrive.

Waves: 6/30

Rewards:...

Failure:...

Time Left: 2: 43: 08]

KOK guild members were lucky enough to arrive in Mudilona before this event abruptly started. Its announcement had taken everyone off guard.

Although they had just finished a mission in the desert and had arrived here to purchase potions to fill their MP and HP bars quickly so they could clear a nearby dungeon and gain some rewards before going back to the city their headquarters was in, they knew that they had to make the most of this opportunity.

Unfortunately, KOK's well-known strongest members were not there so the other guilds who were around thought they could bully them into submission so they wouldn't get the most out of this event but they were quickly shown their place when Mikel arrived with other top members including the vice guild leader and Vincent in an airship.

Using airships for transportation was incredibly effective but equally expensive. It wasn't something that just anyone could afford but Vincent knew that events like this gave the best rewards so it was worth the sacrifice.

On arrival, just Mikel's legendary armor was enough to shut them up. Rumors had spread that KOK had gotten a piece of legendary-level equipment but this was the first time anyone apart from those who already knew were seeing it.

It didn't take long for high-ranking members from other guilds to arrive and a full-out war almost ensued.

Luckily a compromise was reached and the top guilds took spots on the walls where they had to protect and no one would intrude without their permission. Meanwhile, the smaller guilds were bullied into sharing one single spot.

This decision was met with disagreement but there was little they could do against all the top guilds joint decision.

About ten minutes later, no other player was allowed into the region and the event started.

Five waves later and more than fifty percent of the players that started this event were dead.

Mikel heard a thunderclap coming from his side and moved his controller so he could see what was going on in that area. It was then that he saw that it was just his guild leader, Vincent, in-game character appearing next to him.

"Hey Mikel," Vincent's voice sounded from his headphones.

"Guild leader," Mikel responded. "Wave six is approaching, when do we attack?"

"Our mages are low on MP so we can say goodbye to long-range attacks for the next ten minutes until their potion cooldown is over."

"There's no way we'll survive this without their assistance," Mikel commented.

"Is that doubt I hear in your voice?" Vincent said playfully. "Where's all that your earlier confidence?"

Mikel scoffed, "I can still take all of them without your help."

Vincent laughed but then his voice suddenly turned serious, "Don't let your pride cloud your head Mikel. We can't afford to leave this place without any of the rewards."

"He's right, it'll simply be a waste... Your comrades would've fallen for nothing."

The sudden voice had immediately put both Mikel and Vincent on guard and the former had already dished out an attack but the person had dodged.

Mikel was about to continue with a combo when Vincent quickly ordered him to stop.

"Fast reflexes," the person commented with a smile. He wore light brown colored armor and had short black hair, a chiseled jaw, a pointed nose, blue eyes, and had no weapon equipped.

The fact that the person could smile meant that it was an NPC. Taking a proper look at the intruder, Mikel eased up.

[Name: Lord Porter Maji, Mudilona head guard

Level: ??

HP: ??/??
