Not Dark, Not Light Skinned

On her head lay her crown all held in beautiful knots, and she stood tall, pristine and beautiful. Resplendent. A shining beauty with so much laughter in her eyes, addictive.

Uninvited she pushed her way past me, all the way laughing, and skipping through my bedroom, and I felt no need to make her leave, to even stop her. It felt as though she was one with me, a part of me, and I loathed sending a half out. I watched her light the fire and put my room in order. Busy, diligent, keeping an eye out for imperfections, all the while talking, giggling, and making a comment here and there about how much I’d let myself go. To that I simply smiled, and as I watched, warmed by the fact that someone else asides from me was within the same walls I’d dreaded for sometime, her prompt on why I left my door ajar startled me into shutting it. And when she’d been satisfied with her work, she turned to face me, and whilst laughing, asked me why I still stood at the door.
