Chapter 47: The Great War

Jess came with Kate to the funeral. Her cousin held her hand as they made their way past the numerous guests who had come to pay their respects. There was no casket for public viewing. Kate's heart beat faster as they walked around the room.

Cathal saw her first. Her brother went and pulled her into a hug.

"I'm glad you're safe," he told her. "I wish you would've called me for help."

Kate pulled away then smiled at Jess knowingly. "Thanks but we had it under control."

"Barely," Jess disagreed. "It's a good thing we had each other."

Cathal gave her a small smile. "I'm grateful."

A few of Jess's Argent relatives were at the funeral so she went to say hello to them.

"Are you sure I should be here?" Kate asked. "I tried to call Margot but she wasn't answering."

"She kind of always hated her mobile phone. I think she let the battery die and threw it in a drawer," Cathal explained. He tucked her arm around his. "Come on. She'll be happy to see you."
