Nanzhi rushed over as soon as she spotted the hemp ropes tied around tree trunks from afar.
Five out of the six-rope traps she had set had been triggered, but three of them were empty. The fourth looked like an animal had managed to escape, but the last one had ensnared a fat rabbit.
The rabbit tried to free itself as it saw her approach, but the hemp ropes had it tightly bound.
"Mom! We caught another one!"
The child's eyes lit up at the sight of the rabbit; two rabbits would be enough to feed them for a long time!
Nanzhi secured the rabbit's legs before undoing the rope of the trap.
She lifted the rabbit up to weigh it. It must have been over five pounds. Holding the heavy rabbit in her hands, she found herself wishing she could start a fire and roast it right then and there.
Remembering a popular saying among her friends, she resisted drooling and continued setting up her traps.
'Love blossoms over a mountain fire.'
