I lay in the infirmary bed, staring at the sterile white ceiling. My body felt a little better, but my mind was a swirling mess of emotions. The conversation with Lise earlier had left me hurt and confused. I wasn't madly in love with her, but after everything that had happened between us, her cold dismissal felt like a punch to the gut.
"It was a mistake."
Her words echoed in my mind, each repetition sharpening the sting. Why did it feel so painful? I groaned and grabbed the pillow, pressing it over my face to muffle my scream. The frustration and hurt were overwhelming, and I needed an outlet. I let out a long, muffled yell into the pillow, hoping it would somehow expel the turmoil inside me.
Just as I was about to give up and bury myself under the blankets, I heard the door creak open. I lowered the pillow slightly and glanced towards the door, expecting to see a nurse or doctor. Instead, I was greeted by a familiar, teasing laugh.
