The entire ride in the carriage had been silent until they finally reached the mountain's summit along the path. The carriage rocked as the coachman hopped down, running around the backside in the rain to open the door for Emery.
Yuè's anger had fizzled as soon as it flared, replaced by a wry sense of acceptance. What could he do besides continue to plan his escape before he was sold off to some rich lord who believed him to be a woman? Yuè knew he would be killed once the truth came into light. He was not willing to allow such a fate to befall him.
"Yuè, I know you're angry with me." Emery told him while lifting his arm, making his cloak drape over the both of them, shielding them from the icy rain.
