In the classroom, First Lieutenant Peal began briefing us for the upcoming operation. He explains, the invasion of Japan had gotten worse. Many Archangel units were taken out and killed, over 15,000 military personal have been killed in just the first month.
Nation around the world have send military assets, but this didn't stop the Kaiju's increase of forces and power. Japan was slowly, and if not aggressively becoming a waste land. Over 40% of Japanese residents were killed, this was just the beginning of their destructions.
The mission was to send the entire Hotel company, while Kilo acted as a supporting line. Even though most of the seniors in the company had deployed in battle, they all looked frighten. For us boots, we didn't know anything. But to be deployed at this rate, caught us off guard.
Damon, Whalen, Rincon, Ku, Payton, and even Henry were looking nervous. Everyone looked hopeless.
"Sir, have we gotten the timeline yet?" Lance Corporal Southerner asked.
"I have, just in 3 days we will depart at 04. After that we'll fly to South Korea, our Archangel will be transported there as well. For the new guys, I'll arrange your Archangel once we get there and settled in" said First Lieutenant Peal.
Sir explained the whole process of getting there, before beginning our assault in Japan. After the brief was over, Sergeant Ryder took us to his room to talk. We got there, it was quiet and silent.
Sergeant Ryder was the type of senior to haze the juniors, and fuck them up for petty stuff. If your sleeves weren't high enough, if your room even had a speck of dust, it was PT. He'd yell and scream like an Drill Instructor, he'd always be hard on the new guys. But as he talked to us, he was like a different person.
"As you know, we're entering a battlefield soon.. and I know you guys haven't had any experience in combat, but I'll say it now. You will all die, maybe 1 of you guys we'll live but that's a big if. I'm not saying this to scare you, I'm telling you this because I can't guarantee or make promises." he says.
We were all quiet, didn't really say anything except "Aye, Sergeant".
"So before you guys are good for the day, call your families, mom and dad." Said Sergeant Ryder.
We began walking back to our dorms, it felt like a death speech. You know, the ones a commander usually gives before charging into battle.
"Already pissing your pants, Whalen?" said Henry.
"F-fuck no, in fact, I'm ready to fuck those fuckers up!" he said proudly.
"Shut up Whalen, you'll be dead the moment we even step in Japan" Rincon insults.
"Rincon, you'll be dead the moment you drop out of the Aircraft" Damon laughs.
"Alright, cut it out before someone hears ya" said Henry.
"Aye, Corporal!" Damon mocks.
Seeing them making jokes raised my spirit a little, I mean we've grown stronger than before. And our unit was consider the most experience and skilled fighters.
First Lieutenant Peal, 2 Kaiju's killed.
Gunnery Sergeant Hoovich, 9 Kaiju's killed.
Sergeant Ryder, 6 Kaiju's killed.
Corporal Murphy, 7 Kaiju's killed.
Lance Corporal Southerner, 5 Kaiju's killed.
Killing these Kaiju's were no joke, it was harder to kill smaller Kaiju than big wins. They could move so fast, not even the best fighter could react in time. Kaiju's biology was still being conducted, so far, they've only managed to capture one alive for research. That's a theory anyways,
After changing into my civilian attire, I walked out of my dorm to explore the place a little. At that same moment, I saw a girl walking towards me. She was in the same company as me, she had blonde hair and was taller than me. She looked menacing, almost like an angry blonde bitch.
"What'd you staring at?" she says.
"Uhh.. nothing, excuse me ma'am" I said.
Ma'am? The fuck was I saying, what if she was just another boot like me.
"Hold on a second, you're one of the new guys aren't you?" she said.
I stopped for a moment, "uh yes?"
"Ah shit" she laughs, "you guys are unlucky as fuck".
I was confused, "aren't you going as well?" I asked.
"Of course I'm going, why the hell would I be here?"
"You don't seem scared at all" I laughed nervously.
"Scared? Of course I'm fucking scared" she says, "but I'm also not going to complain and be a baby about it like the rest of the guys"
I was silent for a bit, "well maybe.. but that's just what being human is-"
"Ah don't give me that crap" she says, "you're just another dead man talking, stop acting like you know how life works" she says before leaving.
I wasn't sure what she was trying to say, I didn't mean to sound like a pretentious douchebag. I guess she was just that kind of person, easily triggered and sensitive. But judging by the current situation, she must've lost someone precious; I couldn't blame her.
During our free time, we could pretty much do anything, to an extent. Our NCO didn't mind us drinking, as long as we didn't get too fucked up. Henry spent time going to the beach exclusively for military personal only. Whalen would stay in his room, playing on his switch. Rincon stayed in his room playing videos game while on the phone with his mom. I pretty did the same thing, only thing I wish this place had was a basketball court. That's what I did most of time with my little brother, thinking of it made me feel like shit. If I was going to die, I'd rather spent time with the ones I care about the most.
