Grace’s POV
Jack took my hand and pulled me to the back of the house. It wasn’t until then that I snapped out of whatever pit I’d been falling into and remembered that I had a pack and people to take care of. But before I could ask, Jack casually told me that Ned had taken Pax inside and they were both fine.
Again, guilt trickled my spine. They were my responsibility yet here I was, having a mental meltdown and letting Jack pick up my slack. And honestly, I felt like I was letting them all down, but before I would voice my worries, Jack pulled me down on a bench.
“Relax,” he ordered and pulled me into his embrace. “An alpha also needs a break sometimes.”
Sighing – and knowing that there was no fighting him on this - I lay down and rested my head on his lap. It was quiet as we just sat there. Watching the wildlife on the lake behind the castle. Listening to the bees and birds. And doing nothing but enjoying the other’s company.
It felt nice…
