Chapter 15: Titans
--------------------------------
Next Morning...
At the lecturer room.
Vincent looked intently at the middle-aged lecturer. Like any of the other lectures, Vincent would listen seriously. And the topic today is about his enemy, the enemy of mankind the Titans.
"Today we're talking about Titans, and all we knew about them"
"The Titans are mysterious..."
The middle-aged lecturer said that as he opened a book, and continued...
"Even the remnants of our historical literature offer no hints about the origins of the Titans."
"We know next to nothing about them."
"What little we know about their bodies, we learned from the Recon Corps' most recent reports."
"Titans show no signs of human-like intellect, and therefore there are no known instances of successful communication with them."
"Their body structure is fundamentally different from that of all other creatures."
"They have no sexual organs, and their method of reproduction is unknown."
"Most of them have a Physique resembling human males."
"Their bodies exhibit extremely high temperature."
"To our confusion and dismay, they show no interest in any creatures except humans."
"They are seemingly driven exclusively by the desire to consume humans, yet from the fact they survived in an environment devoid of humans for over the century, we can safely conjecture that they have no need to eat."
"Thus, their likely purpose is not predation, but annihilation."
"The main factor behind the human race being driven into such a corner is the Titans' astounding ability to survive."
"Since long ago, mankind has fought using the technology of cannons, but even such firepower couldn't stop the Titans.".
"Even If a Titan's head gets blown off, it will regenerate in one or two minutes, though individual differences do exist."
As the lecturer said that, all the faces of the Trainees were frightened...
"What!"
"As if their size wasn't enough to handle...
…
Vincent then thought as he heard everything the lecturer said.
'If that was true, then Humanity is really f*ck up...'
'But, like any other third rate stories, what the lecturer said is full of loopholes or in other words, story plot holes...'
'There's many uncertainties and many questionable details and information as what the lecturer had said No, it was the history itself'.
'History in the modern world, even 1000 years has passed, traces and remains are still circulating in the world...'
'In this world, where only centuries have passed. The history is already lost and nowhere to be found'.
'From how, humanity was driven inside the walls, to how the walls are created'
'Base of technology advances in this world, or even hundred years ago. It would be impossible to create such a tall, thick, and massive walls that circle the entire kingdom'
'And even if they can, they will manually do it, and it would take a hundred thousands or even millions of people working together from building the walls and it would take about 500 years to build such a wall'.
'And in this 500 years of creation, the people will always be constant danger of exposing by the Titans due to them creating such a big commotion, making the time of creation longer'
'And if they miraculously finish building the wall. Their technology will advance fast, but looking at the situation of this world Humans never questioned everything that happened 100 years ago and they miraculously just began living inside the walls.'
'As if they forgot everything...'
...
"Instructor, are the Titans invulnerable?"
"They are not."
The middle-aged Instructor answered and then began drawing a human back. He then looked towards the Trainees and said,
"There is one way to defeat a Titan."
As he said that, the instructor then circled the back of the next and said.
"Target them here."
"If significant damage is inflicted to this area, the Titans will die without regenerating."
"To cut through their flesh, we use double blades like these."
And then pointed towards the table, where two blades are on top of it.
"If the attack reaches their weak point, the Titan won't have time to regenerate, and die soon."

At Dawn...
In the Dining Hall...
Vincent was eating in the back with his 3 roommates like always.
"Vincent, if we master the 3D Maneuver Gear can we really defeat Titans?"
"It depends, even if you master the ODM gear, but you're afraid to fight, it didn't matter even you master it or not"
"In the end, it comes down to whether you can face death or not, and run away from it..."
"Titans like the Instructor had said, do not have human intellect and how random they think and do, it will be always facing death if you decide to fight and kill them."
"That's... sound right"
"Well... it's the truth"
"Human fear death as they feared Titans"
Connie then scratches his head and says,
"Then... Vincent, can you defeat a Titan?"
Vincent looked at Marco deeply and said,
"It depends on their sizes. Right now, on how I can maneuver the ODM gear and use it. 3 meter Titans will be the best I can face. Not kill but face, as the outcome will be unpredictable"
"Then, even if you can't totally know the outcome, we on the weaker side can only be food. I know I want to join the Military, but Titans is still the enemy of mankind and I want to know my chances of survival in facing them"
Marco, looked down and said.
"Don't worry, there's still 2 years left of training."
"Maybe, if you can survive in the end, you can defeat Titans. Whether it is 3 meter or 4 meters It is still a Titan at the end of the day."
The three looked at each other and nodded, then looked at Vincent and said.
"Then Vincent, can you teach us how to use the ODM gear"
Vincent stopped eating and looked at the three in front of him and said.
"Jean, aren't you good at it? Like you brag in front of everybody, in the Dining Hall."
"Well, I'm good at using ODM gear, but compared to you, I'm no match"
"Then... sure"
