"Arghh … my head hurts …" Eren mumbled softly

"Eren? Eren? Are you alright ?"

"Mikasa? Arghh what happened? I remember I was dreaming about something when I felt a sudden jolt of pain? " Eren asked as he tried to lift his upper body up.

"Eren!! Thank goodness you are alright, I was so worried …"

As Eren opened his eyes, he was greeted by the scene of Mikasa crying on his bed, her eyes were bawling out... She was always like that, acting like an overprotective mom and following him wherever he went.

He had always appreciated that about her, but yet he could never bring himself to do something nice or affectionate for Mikasa. Instead, he would always chide her, saying that he could take care of himself and try to run off to somewhere to shake her off, hoping this would make her less concerned for him, but it only seemed to have the opposite effect instead.

Still, seeing how concerned Mikasa was for him warmed his heart, perhaps he should be a little nice to her. But… how should he do it? Thinking of it, Eren realized that apart from always getting into fights and blabbering about entering the survey corps. He had never really done anything for her.

The more Eren thought about it, the more he felt ashamed of himself and hated how weak he was.

Giving vent to his emotions was just extremely satisfying for him and was something he has been doing along. He would try his best to change from now on… hopefully.

"ARGHHHH"

A splitting headache came over Eren again as he cried out in agony.

[System Activated, User: Eren , proceeding with information upload ]

That was the last voice Eren heard as the world turned black around him once more.

"See you later … Eren"

Was this a dream? No, don't… don't go away….

"Eren. Eren… EREN!"

"Ahh?" Eren opened his eyes drowsily

"You're finally awake Eren, " Mikasa said, a sigh of relief clearly visible from her tone.

"Your hair Mikasa… when did it grow so long? Eren asked.

"... why are you asking this of all sudden? Are you alright Eren?" Mikasa quizzed, Eren was acting totally strange. This was the first time she heard him commenting on her physical features.

"No , I felt like I just had the longest dream … what was it? Now I can't remember ." Eren yawned as he stood up.

"Your eyes… why are you crying Eren?" Mikasa's concern grew

"Huh? No urm , it's fine, oh yea, I need to pick the firesticks." Eren quickly rubbed the tears from his eyes and quickly changed the topic. It was embarrassing letting a girl see her cry. Why was he even crying in the first place?

"You're still not done with the firesticks yet Eren? We need to go home soon." Quipped Mikasa

"I know already, Mikasa , I'll be done soon. " Eren replied as he shrugged his shoulders and continued picking up wood.

It was already 5 days since he experienced that series of headaches. He recalled a voice clearly mentioning something about a system. What in the world was that? He didn't notice any changes in his body, perhaps it was just a really bad day where his body acted up?

Either way that incident didn't really seem to have any adverse effects on his body. If anything, it made the "overprotective" syndrome Mikasa had even worse. She literally stuck to him like glue wherever he went.

He felt like telling off Mikasa on many occasions for that, but every time he thought about the scene of her crying on his bed when he fainted. His heart would soften. He had decided since then to try his best to treat her better.

" Ding Ding Ding"

"THE SURVEY CORPSSSSS are returning!" Screamed Eren as he took off like a jet towards the town.

"Wa..it… Eren!" Mikasa quickly ran behind him as well, afraid that she would be separated from Eren.

A crowd had gathered around the main road leading from the gate. The sight of the returning soldiers was anything but sorry. Many of them were in bandages, some were missing an arm or leg.

The rest were all covered in blood , clearly, a heavy battle against the titans had broken out . Wailing, crying could be heard. Curses and complaints as well from dissatisfied citizens.

"..." Eren was rendered momentarily speechless by what he saw. He knew the fight against the titans was going to be a difficult one, but it was his first time seeing the aftermath of it. Just how horrific was the real fight? Were the titans… really that scary?

"Gah, these survey corps are so useless. Don't understand why we're spending our taxes on these worthless soldiers. They can't do anything." A complaint by one of the citizens near Eren did not escape his ears.

Eren was enraged. He wanted to kick that person and teach him a lesson. But he knew he had to learn to control his emotions, or he would end up hurting those around him. He wasn't going to continue being an immature brat.

Gritting his teeth, he walked away.

"Eren, it's time to go home."

"Just a while more… Mikasa. If u want u go home first like Armin, go ahead. I just want to think about something." Eren replied as he tossed a rock into the river.

Why were humans so weak? Eren thought. Why did they have to live like caged animals? If only he had the strength, he would exterminate every titan and make the world a safe place for everyone to live in. Only the titans were their enemies, right?

" Are you serious about joining the survey corps Eren? It's too dangerous… you might lose your life. " Asked Mikasa, as she shuffled her body closer to where Eren was sitting, discreetly trying to sit closer to him.

"Mikasa! No one's changing my mind. You don't need to follow me. If you're scared u don't have to join. I can protect myself JUST FINE " Eren blurted out as he stormed off.

At that moment he cursed himself. Why did he have to say such words to her? He really hated how easily he lost control of his emotions.

He always said what he thought, even though Mikasa didn't seem to care what he said, he still felt like he was being an asshole.
