ALMH Chapter 19: War On The Horizon
Three old woman are by a quiet river, fishing with their poles, their baskets on the ground next to them. The air is still, the sunlight is warm on their skin, and everything seems peaceful. Suddenly, one of the women looks up and frowns slightly. "Did anyone else hear something?" she asks, her tone slightly nervous and cautious. Her two comrades turn to face her and they also look around, their ears perked up as they try to hear anything unusual.
Betty looks up again, but this time with growing worry. Her companions notice her concern and follow suit, peering up at the sky and listening intently. They hear what sounds like distant thunder, but with it comes the call of something else, something that sounds almost like... men talking?
Louisa's eyes widen and she quickly turns to Betty in an attempt to confirm the strange sound. "Betty did you hear that?" She asks, the first few twangs of concern in her voice.
