Subsequent Fall Part 32.9: Beacon White

James stretched out his limbs as he was worn on. Looking around was nothing but green. Followed closely by a sea of blue. They were trapped on an island as James put his gloves on. Looking behind him many harpy shadows started to strike at Pete as he activated his ability and slashed all of them to bits as Proto was too late to gun them down.

"God damn he is such an animal." Hawaii spoke her thoughts out loud as his blade was held to her neck.

"Easy James, she didn't mean it as a bad thing." Proto jabbed her rib gently as she rolled her eyes beneath her helmet.

"Other issues at hand guys!" Pete pulled out his twin shotguns, one at a time he fired as the void came at him. "James, keep me safe while the other two figure the way off the island!"

James hoped in front of him as the pellets from the shotgun spread bounced off of his aura as he started picking up speed. The void creatures started to come from the full frontal side. Pete kept suppressing fire on them as James started using his claws as the other two stood at the beach.

"How are we supposed to get to the evacuation zone? It's over five hundred miles of ocean." Hawaii looked into the distance as it was endless. The waves crash together creating a mess of whirlpools and waves.

"We can't." Proto looked through his side pouches.

"MOVE!" James shouted as he blitzed past the two of them as his claws were pure ice, each slash froze the surface as he ran across the ocean. Freezing it as the sea creatures started to swarm him. Not of void these were as serpents came out of the water, cracking the layer of ice as James looked up at the two that appeared.

"Pete, get this way before its too late. Let me and Hawaii protect you." Proto slid in front of him blocking a harpy from attacking Pete directly. Pete ran to the ice bridge as the two of them covered his flanks as they ran to the open water where Pete and Hawaii froze for a moment as Proto kept going. "You two don't have time to be afraid of the water!"

"I did not have a good time surfing the last time I saw the ocean." Hawaii looked directly at him as Proto started opening fire on the harpies with his sniper. Each round fired made him move the bolt once more.

"Using ancient tech?" Pete turned his back to the ice bridge as his shotgun jammed. Proto sniped a harpy attacking him.

"More reliable, NOW MOVE BEFORE I MAKE YOU!" Proto kept firing past the two of them as they took a soft step onto the ice. Once they felt the thickness of the ice they ran behind Proto as a giant void eagle opened its wings on the beach. "Well that works too." Proto opened the bolt of his sniper as he was out of rounds.

James had clawed both serpents badly and tossed their carcasses onto the icy path as stabbing them while they were still alive gave more stacks. He became hyperfixated at this one thing. "JAMES WE NEED THE PATH!" Pete shouted as he became alerted to his actions once more and got to the edge, swinging his arm down into the ice as he swung his claw forward. The ice bridge went all the way to shore with one strong push.

Proto inserted the prototype light round, perfect time to test it. He exhaled as the bird lifted off the ground. Firing his sniper the round flew through the air and seared a hole through the bird as it turned to ash. Proto held his sniper as he rubbed his shoulder.

"More sea serpents?" Hawaii kept pointing them out as James changed his tactic from drawing it out to finishing them in one blow versus taking his time. Each slash severed the serpent's head from its body.

"Tag any hostiles, we have a five hundred mile march before the evac zone, which is another two hundred miles of land." Proto switched to his carbine rifle as the harpies tried to swarm them. He gunned them down as Pete and Hawaii ran deeper on the ice road.

"We can't physically make the seven hundred mile trip in three days?" Pete kept running as Hawaii saw seals hopping onto the icy bridge, more human than seal as Hawaii started using her rifle on them as they slowly swarmed the two of them.

Proto came sliding as he wielded his broadsword and slashed all of them near the three of them as they kept gunning down the seals as they all came onto the ice in droves. "Ayo kid! We need you now!" thrusting his sword in between Hawaii and Pete, he killed another seal. "If we don't pick up the pace to six minute miles, you are right, we won't make it."

James' claws became a bright orange as she shredded through all of the seals. Digging them into the ice he stayed still for a moment as he was transferring his stacks. "Tether to me and get ready to ice skate." His eyes were a slightly lighter shade as Proto fired his wrist grapple past James as he caught it.

"We were supposed to bring more things?" Hawaii looked confused as Pete grabbed her and clung to Proto's free arm.

"Now James, and once we get to land you take a nap!" Pete yelled as that was all the motivation he needed. James took off as fast as he physically could in order to get them to the mainland. The ice path was slowly being swarmed with even more void creatures as James ran through them. Hawaii was the one gunning them down as Proto was making sure he didn't lose either of them.

The sun set as they made it to the mainland. The ice bridge stopped just short as James jumped up and dragged them along with him. All landing in a field of hay the four of them looked around and were happily surprised that they made it. James rolled into a ball and took his well deserved nap as the other three looked around.

"There are no void creatures." Proto looked and his sensors were quiet. "We should run as far as possible before digging a foxhole at sunrise and let him protect us all day then move in the night once more."

"You think that's the best bet?" Hawaii looked over to him as Pete nodded.

"James can easily protect all three of us while we sleep easy inside of the foxhole. And he wouldn't have to worry about protecting us three. Good idea." Pete started to sprint as Proto scooped up James and followed after him. Hawaii took the end position as the three made it almost all the way to the evacuation zone before sunrise as James woke up. They were digging a hole, exhausted.

"Can you protect us if we sleep for a couple of hours?" Pete asked as Hawaii slumped herself into the hole. James nodded as Pete fell in from exhaustion, instantly asleep. Proto put the cover on as James stood on it. Holding the area down within a full mile radius around them. Taking second place going into the last day.
