The Return

Exhausted from his intense battle with the Thunder Vermillion Roc, Lian Chen found himself overcome by weariness. He collapsed onto the ground, his body drained of energy, desperately fighting to remain conscious.

Summoning every ounce of strength in him, Lian Chen took a deep breath and gradually rose to his feet. Despite his fatigue, his determination propelled him forward, and he approached the Scarlet Fire Crow that was not likely to live longer.

Standing at the side of the Scarlet Fire Crow, Lian Chen carefully retrieved the offspring from the protective wings of a mother.

As the Scarlet Fire Crow approached the end of its life, it asked, "Can you give me your word that you will protect and cherish her always?"

Lian Chen responded promptly, "I promise."

"Before I pass, could you grant me the honor of naming her?" the Scarlet Fire Crow requested.

"I will name her Xiao Huan, in hopes that she grows up to be as strong as a phoenix." Lian Chen responded.

Upon receiving the name for her offspring, the Scarlet Fire Crow solemnly released a drop of its blood, which gracefully landed on Lian Chen's arm and the young crow.

In that moment, a powerful bond was forged, symbolizing their commitment and loyalty to each other. The contract was sealed, intertwining their destinies and granting Lian Chen the privilege of becoming the guardian and companion of the Scarlet Fire Crow's offspring.

Securing his newfound ally, Lian Chen turned his attention to the fallen Thunder Vermillion Roc. Lian Chen approached the beasts cautiously, his senses alert.

Extracting a sharp knife from his pocket, Lian Chen meticulously starts to carve into the Roc body, searching for its core. With skilled precision, he located the Thunder Vermillion Roc's core, a pulsating gem that is radiating with power.

With the task complete, Lian Chen turned towards his gaze to the lifeless body of the Scarlet Fire Crow.

An overwhelming sadness washed over him, but he knew that the Crow had given all of her best to protect Xiao Huan. With respect, Lian Chen dug a shallow grave, and gently placed the fallen creature in, honoring its sacrifice.

As Lian Chen was covering the grave with soil, he whispered a heartfelt farewell, thanking the Scarlet Fire Crow for its bravery and loyalty. He vowed to protect Xiao Huan as long as he lived.

Although Xiao Huan was of tender age, she understood the absence of her parents, and her mournful wails resonated across the vast expanse of the Dragonspine Mountain.

Carrying Xiao Huan in one arm and the Thunder Vermillion Roc core in another arm, Lian Chen hastened his journey back to the Buddha Benevolent Sect.
