Chapter 147: Fog Spell
Bang~!
Another deafening gunshot echoed.
One of the fleeing men had his back burst into a spray of blood, tumbling more than a meter away.
Everyone's faces turned even more grim.
They quickly hid behind the truck, not daring to expose themselves on the open ground anymore.
However, the skeletal hounds in the distance were drawing closer, and more skeletons wielding weapons appeared in view.
"Ah~! Run, if we don't run, we're definitely dead!" someone shouted.
"Let's all run together, whoever makes it out alive, makes it out." another person echoed.
"Alright! One, two, three, go!"
As the words fell, one person poked his head out.
Bang~!
The sound of a sniper rifle rang out, and the bullet pierced through his chest.
The remaining few quickly rushed out from behind the truck, scattering and fleeing toward the distance.
Clatter, clatter~!
The skeletal hounds darted forward, quickly catching up and knocking them to the ground, wildly tearing at their flesh.
The entire area was filled with painful wails.
As the area gradually quieted down.
Wu Heng and his group emerged from the side under the escort of the skeletons.
He glanced at the truck parked to the side.
Leading the group, he entered the farmyard across the way.
The yard was spacious, with some vegetables growing, indicating these people had a decent life here.
They even had fresh greens to eat.
Besides the vegetable plots, there were five black motorcycles parked on the concrete ground, looking incredibly stylish.
Although Wu Heng didn't know much about motorcycles, he could tell these ones weren't cheap.
These people must have been quite wealthy before.
After surveying the yard, his gaze fell on the two-story house in the middle, its exterior covered in white tiles, making it one of the better residences in this area.
The skeletons entered first to check the surroundings.
After confirming there was no danger, Wu Heng followed them inside.
Inside, there were some daily necessities and food that had been scavenged.
On the ground near a pile of firewood, a few of Qiangzi's group were tied up, curled in a corner.
They were unharmed, and Li Yanhong let out a sigh of relief.
These people were part of her core team, the ones she could trust.
When they got to the prison, she would need them to support her, so if they had died here...
It would have been a loss for her.
Besides, they were all partners who had survived together and she didn't want them to really die here.
The people on the ground looked embarrassed when they saw Wu Heng and Li Yanhong enter.
They awkwardly turned their heads to the side.
"Untie them and check the vehicles," Wu Heng ordered directly.
Li Yanhong walked over, kicked the people lying on the ground twice, then bent down to untie the ropes binding their hands and feet.
The group lowered their heads, wanting to explain but not knowing what to say.
"Go, check the vehicles," Li Yanhong instructed.
They quickly scurried off.
"Search the rooms, take anything useful!" Wu Heng commanded.
Li Yanhong and the newly joined doctor and student started rummaging through the house.
Wu Heng walked back outside, where the skeletal hounds had dragged back the corpses of the fleeing men.
He searched the bodies, finding three pistols in total.
The bullets inside were few, likely not from the security bureau.
After all, guns there were locked in safes, and retrieving them wouldn't be easy.
Wu Heng converted the corpses into skeletons.
Adding them to his growing skeleton army.
When he turned around again, Li Yanhong and her group were bent over, digging vegetables from the garden.
Wu Heng didn't stop them.
He usually ate at the tavern.
For Li Yanhong and her group, fresh vegetables were a rare treat.
Soon, Qiangzi and the others returned, reporting, "The vehicles are fine, all ready to go."
"Good, load up these motorcycles, we're heading to the warehouse."
"Alright!"
They pushed the motorcycles onto the truck, then started the engine and headed toward the building materials warehouse.
They began loading up materials and equipment from the warehouse.
Once the trucks were full, the convoy set off to return.
...
On the way.
Li Yanhong said, "I asked them, they were chatting in the truck when the enemy sneaked up and scared them with a gun."
At the time, the two were a bit puzzled.
The truck had been modified with thick iron plates, and the windows were reinforced with thumb-thick steel bars.
Plus, the driver's seat was high up.
As long as the doors were locked, it would be hard for someone with a gun to threaten the people inside.
Even if they didn't get out to counterattack, they could've just driven away.
But instead, they were caught while chatting and got ambushed.
"Be more careful next time. You've made it this far, don't die over something stupid like this," Wu Heng said.
"Yeah, when we get back, I'll make them work harder, this pisses me off," Li Yanhong said, slapping the steering wheel.
"As long as they're okay, next time have them chat over the radio."
"Still, I've got to scold them." She continued, "I'm planning to transport this batch of goods back to the prison tomorrow, and bring more people with me. Some will collect supplies from the residential area, and the rest will continue hauling from the warehouse."
"Alright, I'll have Big Head Skeleton guard you to make sure nothing happens."
"Okay."
The convoy returned late at night.
Everyone said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.
The three new members followed Li Yanhong to the auto repair shop.
...
The next morning.
Wu Heng assigned the skeletons to accompany the convoy back to the prison.
He himself returned to Rentam City, heading for the Adventurer's Guild.
On the notice board in the hall, there was a new wanted poster with Roche's name and likeness.
It seemed that the other teams hadn't found anything either, so they were now pursuing his lead.
The hunt for Roche had officially begun.
After checking the board, Wu Heng went to the front desk to select his reward for killing the leader of the Blood Worship Sect.
After comparing a few skill books, he chose [Fog Spell], a spell from the conjuration school that could create dense fog.
Wu Heng had wanted to choose some offensive skills or something to boost his Raise Skeleton spell, but none were available in the exchange.
Still, the selection of skill books in Rentam City was much better than in Blackstone Town.
At least here he had options.
Over there, there wasn't even a choice.
After selecting his skill, Wu Heng went to the lounge to rest for a while, and seeing there was nothing else to do, he headed to the outer city to buy a large amount of alchemical materials before returning home.
As dusk approached.
Wu Heng was in his study, flipping through the [Fog Spell] he had obtained today.
He had just read halfway through.
When he heard a knock at the door downstairs.
Wu Heng went downstairs, standing in front of the door, asking, "Who is it?"
"Ahem! Captain Wu Heng, it's me."
From outside came Wen Mansa's voice.
Wu Heng opened the door, and there stood Wen Mansa, wearing a hooded coat, with the skeleton assigned to her by his side.
Her small head peeked inside the door.
"No one else is here, come in."
Wen Mansa immediately smiled, stepping inside and glancing around the room, surprised, "Master, your place is so nice."
"A friend's house, I'm just staying here for now." Wu Heng walked as he spoke, "Upstairs, there are a few of my skeleton servants. Don't be scared if you see them."
"I'm not afraid!" Wen Mansa replied.
"Good!" Wu Heng nodded and continued walking toward the living room.
Behind him came the sound of rustling.
Sensing she hadn't followed, Wu Heng turned to look.
Wen Mansa had taken off her coat, revealing a black set of lingerie that didn't seem to belong to this world.
Her fiery red wavy hair was adorned with a black cat-ear headband, her front bangs hanging down, covering half her face.
Around her slender neck was a bell choker.
She wore a fluffy black bra, with a black cat tail behind.
Wen Mansa crouched on the ground, her face flushed, eyes darting nervously.
"Meow!"
