“Not unless you tell him. I didn’t attach a card.”
“Should I tell him?”
“Had I wanted him to know, I would have.” Jacob kept his tone light.
“Then so be it. I’ll give Rory your gift—and not tell him it’s your gift.”
“Thank you.”
The movie house went dark, except for the red tips of several dozen cigarettes, and one more coming down the aisle. Rory snuck in from the rear, sitting himself right behind them. Jacob knew it was Rory. Somehow, he knew.
“You really think this time travel stuff is possible?” Wendy asked, lowering her voice.
“Absolutely,” Jacob said.
“Tell me about it.”

“If I remember my junior high science correctly, you’re looking for atoms.”
“Very good.”
“You can take the teacher out of the classroom…” Wendy teased, with a gentle brush of fingers on Jacob’s cheek.
