Angel Smile

The background is set in a small, quiet town on the outskirts of Seoul. In this town, people were friendly, except for one particular neighbourhood. In this neighbourhood, everybody lived their lives as if treading on eggshells, all because of one particular household: the Lees. People surnamed Lee were a dime a dozen, but these particular set of Lees were unique. Dysfunctional. The family consisted of four people; the father and breadwinner Lee Do Joon, the delinquent son Lee Hyuk, the top student Lee Gun, and the town's most beautiful girl Lee Yeo Ri. Lee Yeo Ri was regarded as a saving grace, but before anybody knew it, the saving grace was slowly disintegrating from within. Hidden underneath her perfect, angelic smile, was a girl who was slowly being crushed and torn apart. This is her story. — TRIGGER WARNING — This story contains depictions of rape, violence, and other traumatic scenes. — Cover art by Ren (Twitter: @ikinashi_ren) — Please consider commenting or reviewing; any and all feedback are appreciated! :D

A Good Friend Arrives

Heo Jin Goo arrived at the Lees' doorsteps at exactly 9 a.m.

He leaned against his car, exhaling the cold morning air. The weather was getting increasingly cold; a sign that winter was approaching.

"Jin Goo-oppa, you're here?" A familiar soft voice greeted him. The front gate opens to reveal a beautiful young girl, wearing a dark blue men's shirt and a pair of baggy old-fashioned pants. Her choice of clothing was peculiar for a girl of her age but she was the type of person who looked good in anything; even the 'tasteful' pants could not deter anyone from seeing her beauty.

Jin Goo offered a smile at the young girl, "I'm here. Where are the patients?"

"Hyuk-oppa is still sleeping but Gun-oppa went to wash up. He'll be ready in a few minutes."

Jin Goo raised an eyebrow, "how can that b*stard still be sleeping when the sun's already out?"

Yeo Ri smiled helplessly, "He must've been too tired. I'll go wake him up now."

"Do you need any help?"

"No need. You're already helping out a lot just by being here," Yeo Ri shook her head, looking at him gratefully.

"Okay, then. I'll wait here," he ruffled her hair, smiling dotingly. Yeo Ri was always so nice. He wondered if Hyuk and Yeo Ri were really related. How can such a terrible b*stard be related to such a nice girl? Did they really grow up under the same roof?

Yeo Ri laughed as she fixed her hair. She went back into the house.

Several minutes pass, and the door opens again.

"Hyung," Gun greeted Jin Goo politely. He was not very familiar with the man but since he came to help, Gun did not forget his manners.

"You must be Gun," Jin Goo nodded to the boy. He had been friends with Hyuk for the past two years but this was the first time he met with this boy called 'Gun'. Hyuk only had bad things to say about the boy, but with his personality, Jin Goo was not so quick to trust Hyuk's one-sided complaints. Since Yeo Ri got along well with Gun, then the boy was probably not as bad as Hyuk had described.

"Thanks and sorry for all the trouble," Gun says perfunctorily.

"It's my pleasure. Since Yeo Ri asked for a favour from me."

Gun halted. "You're familiar with Yeo Ri?"

"Of course. I buy her food sometimes, too." Jin Goo remarked, observing Gun's facial expression.

Gun frowned imperceptibly. He raised his guards up. He wondered if Jin Goo was also a delinquent like Hyuk, but judging from his demeanour and way of dressing, it was not right. Jin Goo was dressed in a neat brown coat with a grey sweater, a clean-cut pair of slacks, and expensive-looking shoes. The watch he wore was a branded one, and he even has a foreign-brand car. He looked too rich and too polite to be hanging around with Hyuk.

However, no matter how high his specs were, if this man was harbouring any type of ill-intention towards Yeo Ri, then he had to protect her.

"Don't worry, I'm not interested in Yeo Ri." Jin Goo smirked slightly, noticing his reaction. The Lee brothers were so fiercely protective of their younger sister. Though, he could understand. If he had a sister who was that pretty, he'd be protective too. "I think of her as a little sister, too."

"Sorry for being rude, then." Gun grunted. His gait relaxed, but there was still some tension remaining. He did not completely trust his words.

"It's fine." Jin Goo smiled wryly. It was rather fun to see the Lee brothers get so riled up whenever Yeo Ri was involved.

The two stood together in silence. Thanks to their unfamiliarity with each other, they did not carry any conversation and simply waited for the other two passengers awkwardly.

Finally, Yeo Ri and Hyuk comes out, with the former half-supporting the latter.

"Oppa, come on! Stop moving around too much and just lean on me!" the girl grumbled.

"I don't need a weak girl like you to help me. I'm fine! I can walk on my own!" the man replied gruffly. He tried to pull away from the girl but every move he made was met with shots of pain.

He hissed in pain, but still did not stop resisting.

"'Sup, Hyuk. You b*stard, just hurry up and get in the car. Don't be a f*cking pain-in-the-*ss," Jin Goo impolitely slapped the man's shoulders, sending another jolt of pain to his brain. He helped open the passenger door as Yeo Ri got him seated.

"F*ck you!" Hyuk growled at him.

"F*ck you, too," Jin Goo replied disinterestedly.

Yeo Ri got into the backseat with Gun, and the four sets out to the hospital.
