Chapter 3 : The Man In The Book

Out of the book shone another blinding light, but unlike the one before, it gave me a sense of calmness, like the smell of your mother's perfume. After the light slowly dissipated, a short man, perhaps only the size of my forearm, if that, sat in the corner opposite me with a pipe in his mouth. He seemed like the man you would see at the top of a mountain, a man whose seen too much to live in a normal village, so secluded himself and his wisdom from everyone else. When he spoke, the smell of his pipe have off a sense of wisdom, yet also kindness. He didn't speak his name, but only told me he was one of my ancestors, one of the ones whom started the family. We spoke till dawn about the book and it's origins, and from what I've gathered he doesn't know what it is either. He has been trapped in there for several millennia asleep, waiting for the right person to claim the book and release him. With him, there were many other souls trapped in there, but were not awakened due to how weak I am. I was about to go into the specificities further, but then the door started shaking, and a burly old man, reeking of drinks from the night before burst in. He immediately grabbed me, threw me in shackles, and told me my execution was soon. He didn't seem to see the old man in the corner, and before he opened the door I was able to hide my book in the ring so he wouldn't be able to take it. He did a final sweep of the room, perhaps looking for some items to pawn of mine, but wasn't able to find anything, and he didn't notice the ring on my finger. That's when he decided to grab my chain, and pull me out the door.
