Chapter 10. Enemy

When I seemed to gain my consciousness, I tried hard to open my eyes slowly. I must have been sedated but I had never heard of a drug that could knock out a wolf that quick. And probably for long, even though I didn't know how long I had been out.

When I eventually opened my eyes, I had to squint them a little because the room I happened to be in was painted all white. When finally my eyes adjusted to the lighting, I saw that I was sitting on a chair and my hands and legs were on either side, locked in chains that extended to the corners of the room. Great, now I had to turn into my wolf, I thought to myself.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." I soft musical voice said to me.

It was like she was reading my mind but either way, when I heard her speak, I realised that I had been captured. 'Took you long enough.' my wolf whispered.

I then made the effort to look up in an attempt to see the person behind the voice.

She was the most breathtaking site I had ever seen. She had verdant type green eyes so big they called the attention of a room, beautiful blond hair that looked so silky and shone so much I thought touching it would leave glitter on my palms, a pale smooth skin like that of a new born. And when she got up, it made me realise just how tall she was. Her beautiful face matched her long model legs and well curved body.

My marvelling deepened when she smiled at me, in amusement. She must have been used to this.

"I get that a lot." She said still giving that breathtaking smile.

I remained silent, now really wondering who she was.

"Nali is the name. I assume your father told you about me." She went on with a smirk. "Honestly, I'd be mad disappointed if he never did. So please, don't disappoint me,"

"You my girl are absolutely beautiful. Not even my daughter compares and look at me?" Her arms went down from her head to her torso motioning what she had to show off. "Hell, you should have been mine." She went on looking at me. But her eyes seemed so distant, like she was remembering something.

I didn't know she had a daughter. That was news.

"Let's play a little game shall we." Nali went on. "Let's call it, Did you know. Okay?"

I didn't answer.

"Did you know? Your father was bringing you to me." She stared at me waiting for a reaction.

The words confused me. I didn't understand what she was on about but she kept talking anyway. "I was so desperate to meet you honey. You and that mother of yours. But that little alpha, Roman they call him?" She questioned herslef and went on, "He did the unthinkable. That was my job." The last part made her seem frustrated.

I on the other hand didn't understand much of what she was saying to me.

"What?" I asked breathlessly.

She laughed loudly as if I had said something amusing. I grimaced.

"Your father was not so great a man as you thought. I had seen him countless times weeks before you all turned rogue. He says he was protecting you but he truly wasn't. He was bringing you to me." She smirked, looking satisfied what the words that she hoped would shatter me.

"That is not true." I countered.

"Whoa! Relax little girl. I won't bite....yet." She said now laughing hard at me.

"Your father moved on! I came back after a year and he was married and expecting a pup." She sounded very angry, very bitter. "He promised to love only me and one little lie from my wretched father made him betray me. It made him marry that woman and have you." she stopped to breath.

"You should have been mine!" she meant her words. "I should have been luna and your father should have stayed with me and my pup."

Her pup?

I was really confused now. "Why do you have to blame others for the mistake of your father?" I asked sounding like I was speaking to myself. She heard me clear enough though.

"Don't get me wrong girl. That man paid his dues for what he did. In fact, that is how my revolution started." She gave herself a proud smile. "I walked into our land like a lost child that had returned home, and the first moments I had with him was me snapping his neck....Oh how it felt, the thrill of it was just incredible."

This woman was batshit crazy.

"He did not see it coming though. That's what made it more fun." "Now you listen here girl. Your father was going to give you to me anyway so why not do it as his dying wish? Surrender. Surrender your whole pack to me, the land, your people and yourself. And I promise you that everything will be fine. Failure to that little lady, you will be starting a war you will not win." Her words were serious. I could see it. I could feel it.

"I will have it all. Everything that was supposed to be mine. I will have it all." Her voice was unfaltering.

"You are crazy." I said trying to sound unfaltering too. "You need to move on and leave us alone."

She laughed at my efforts.

"You know, not only you missy, but that mate of yours Roman? Oh he has it coming for him I promise you. All I need to do is draw his father back to our lands and I will strike."

I sat quiet staring at her like I was unmoved by what she said.

Unexpectedly, she hit my face hard. I choked out crying.

She talked a lot. Explained so much that my father had not told me, well, most of it was her side of the story.

By the time she was done, I was bleeding out, tired and before I knew it, things went black again.

When I woke up. I was in a car park. It took me a while to recognize my environment but I did eventually.

I was at a mall. I was dressed in the clothes I had packed in my backpack and the said backpack was sitting on my back.

I started running, I don't know why but it felt safer to do that. Run into the closest bush and turn into my wolf so that I could make it home faster.

Then I saw a big black car. One that looked rather familiar.

Before I could make my way away from it, the car stopped and he raced out of the car, running torwards me with a wary face, or a frightened one, I couldn't tell.

"Arlene?" he was now in front of me, holding onto me like I was about to fall. "Baby are you alright? What happened?" The questions were too much for me right now. Why was he here?

"Roman." I said almost breathlessly.

"Baby are you alright? say something." He reiterated.

"I..." I tried to start but before I knew it I broke into tears. He held me to his chest, tightly.

"I have you now. Don't cry. I'm here." He assured me as hhe walked me to his car.

Once settled, the blackness took me again.

Roman (Point of View)

The text I received from Arlene earlier today was really strange.

We hadn't spoken in over a month, so her sudden urge to see me somewhat confused me.

I still went there though, she was at the boarder of her territory and she was looking really confused. Did she intetionally call me here?

I was there an hour late but when I saw her, it looked like she had just gotten there. It was six in the morning.

She looked pale, she looked sad and more so she looked confused. Her eyes had bags under them like she hadn't slept in days and her body was slouched.

When she saw me, I felt hopeful because she never chased me away or pushed me away like the last time I saw her. She merely fell into my embrace and invited my comfort while she cried helplessly.

What happened to her?

I drove to her woods, starting to enter her pack territory.

As I entered, a guy I tried to ask for directions to her house looked like he recognised me and his wolf was at bay. Without wasting time, I slowly opened the door of the car, got out and opened the back door to show him his alpha. He looked even more stunned.

"Have something to say now?" I asked him feeling highly agitated.

With that, he quickly joined me in the passengers seat and lead me to Arlene's house.

When I put her to bed, I kissed her forehead and waited anxiously knowing that when she woke up, she would reject me.
