among the simpletons

I find myself in a state of utter bewilderment, surrounded by a sea of confused faces. The last thing I remember is gracing my workplace with my presence, and now, as I glance around, it's clear that the common folk are just as perplexed as I am. An annoying glow persists, emanating from the ground—oh, not just any ground, mind you; it's adorned with a bizarre pattern. Odd, to say the least, but then again, my standards for the peculiar are exceptionally high.

Chapter 27

"So, what are you going to do about it? Why am I here? What is this all for?" I asked, with a mix of confusion and annoyance.

"I want to help you, Jeldard! If we become friends again and show everyone th–"

"No, no, no, NO! You can't do this! You can't just go away for three years and leave me all alone, by myself and then after that just come back expecting me to forget all about you leaving. Do you think I'm that simple? Do you know what I had to go through to come here? Knowing you left our friendship behind to join the very people making my life a living hell, and after all that, you think you can just come back? NO!" I got up from my seat in mock anger and started heading for the exit.

Surprisingly, the woman grabbed onto my arm and said in a desperate voice, "I'm sorry, Jeldard. I had no choice. I left because my fathe–".

I cut her off. "I don't care why you left. The fact is, you abandoned me, and now you think you can just come back into my life all willy-nilly. Well, no, no you can't! Now let me go!" I forcefully pulled my arm from her grasp and continued leaving the dorm.

While I was leaving she was yelling about being sorry and stuff but I just ignored her. And as I close the door behind me a giant smile appears on my face. That was perfect I basically ruined any chance for Ustos and Keswick to be friends again.

If she doesn't do anything stupid, she will probably be dealt with.

The rest of the day passes normally, I do my homework, practice my quill skills and go to sleep.

The next day while I'm sitting in magic theory calls I find Keswick looking at me, and she doesn't even try to hide it anymore. Well what ever, idiots will be idiots, she'll probably get over it, I would have gotten over it already, but I can't really expect everyone else to be as emotionally intelligent and as smart as I am.

Heading into soul class I find the teacher early, that's odd in all my time at this academy I have never seen this woman early to her class. As all the students take their seats the teacher finally starts talking.

"All right, it's time for all of you to practice the first step of sensing your soul. I have brought special magic items that will give you all mana breaches, don't worry the devices are safe and won't cause mana breach-related damages."

After telling us this, the teacher gave all of us the magic items, which were ring-shaped and had runes on them, inspecting the runes I can recognize some of them thanks to magic theory but I still can't understand what the ring is supposed to do only by looking at it's runes.

The teacher tells us all to put on the rings, apparently, the mana breach is not instant because creating an instant mana breach is dangerous for the soul.

The teacher tells us "If anyone here feels a weird feeling they should raise their hand.".

After a little time, a person raises their hand and the teacher starts talking again "Ah good, what you are feeling now is your mana cipher opening a connection between your fiscal body and itself, so it can convert fat into imprinted element. Now you should start trying to feel your soul through the connection, and trying to move some of your imprinted mana.".

After a while of waiting, I also start to feel a weird feeling in my chest, it's like nothing I have ever felt before. I focus in on that feeling and it's odd, it is like there is some sort of force that sends off something out into some sort of organ, and after that, I can't sense anything. Ah, this must be the mana cipher sending imprinted mana into the mana core which then pumps it into the whole soul. It's…it's, appalling, it should be under my control, it should all be under my control! To think a part of my body has been off doing its own thing, this can't slide.

I try to grab onto it, onto any part of the imprinted mana moving into the mana core but it keeps slipping away from my great mental grasp, so I try again, and again, and again, and I can sense myself getting better and better by just a minuscule amount, but still, getting just a little bit better.

But I am snapped out of my deep concentration as the lesson ends, And the teacher says "All right it seems the lesson is over, you will all keep the rings with you, and your assignment will be to practice sensing your soul and to write up an essay about mana vessels.".
