CHAPTER 4

Walking through the doors of Preston high school for Kelly was like walking into hell. She loved school, yes but she just wasn't feeling like it and the stares she got from people didn't help. Everyone wanted to see the new girl that walked in with Paris and Asher Rogers.

Asher and Paris immediately separated and Kelly continued to follow Paris around like a lost puppy. Only when they got to the front of a locker with three girls leaning up against it did they stop walking.

The girls stood with bitchy looks on their faces and Kelly immediately knew she wouldn't like them. They wore clothes that were too tight, revealing too much cleavage and leaving nothing to the imagination.

Ah, the stereotypical queen bees.

If Kelly had thought that Paris was wearing the brightest shade of pink, she had certainly been wrong. The girls were all wearing either bright pink or bright purple and it boldly stuck out, harshly blinding Kelly. She held her head high and gave them a small smile that she composed well so as not to reveal her irritation.

"Hey guys." Paris waved.

"Took you long enough."  Jacqueline, her best friend, said rolling her eyes and Paris waved her off.

"This is my cousin, Kelly. Kelly, meet my friends Jacqueline, Ashley and Cassey." Paris said pointing at each one of them.

Jacqueline had straight, beautiful golden blonde hair that matched her kind of harsh looking chocolate brown eyes. Her body looked like it was sculpted and she was probably the prettiest girl Kelly had ever met. Her skin was perfectly tanned which added to her stunning beauty and she could definitely tell why Jacqueline had that confident aura around her.

Ashley had strawberry blonde hair with a pair of deep green eyes. She didn't look too confident but she was also very beautiful. Cassey looked like the quiet one of the group although she still had the bitchy look they all shared, she had wavy black hair that cascaded down to her mid back and a pair of grey eyes that looked a tiny bit more welcoming than the eyes of the other two girls.

The girls seemed to be studying Kelly too and that made her nervous, she didn't like too many eyes on her. The people in the hallway were looking too.

People don't mind their businesses around here?

"Hey Kelly." Jacqueline finally said, giving her a scowl which was perfectly hidden behind a smile but Kelly noticed it.

"Hi." She replied curtly, before turning to Paris. "I need to get my schedule, will you please follow me to the principal's office?"

"Sure. See you guys later!" Paris said and waved at the girls.

**************

Thirty minutes later, sat quietly at a seat in a corner at the back of the class was Kelly. It was History class. One of her worst subjects. The teacher hadn't asked her to introduce herself and she was glad about that.

Doodling on her book, Kelly paid no attention to the short, round man with receding hairline teaching at the board. Instead she stared out the window and began drawing a giant cloud that looked almost like the head of a lion.

"Am I boring you, miss....". The teacher said waiting for Kelly to complete the sentence.

"Henderson. Kelly Henderson." She said turning her head to face him. "And no sir, you're not boring me."

"Good. Miss Henderson, now I'll like you to actually focus on what I'm teaching." He said, his lips pulled into a thin line giving away his annoyance. And for the rest of the class, Kelly tried not to lose focus. It was difficult.

Immediately the bell rang, Kelly bolted for the door ignoring the looks she got from the other kids. She opened up the small map of the school given to her as she walked down the hallway. In minutes, she had reached her locker and she quickly got out the books she'll need and got to class. She had English. She liked the subject a bit.

And that was how her first half of the day went, sitting in boring classes and running to another so as not to get late, she really couldn't wait for lunch.

***************

It was lunch. Finally. Kelly sighed slightly, relieved from having to run around to classes for the next thirty minutes.

She held open the door to the library and walked in, greeting the  woman at the desk. She looked to be in her late fifties and she had a sweet smile with welcoming eyes.

"Hi dear." The woman replied her. "I'm Mrs. Godfrey but please call me Lucy." Kelly couldn't help but smile at her sweet voice.

"All right Mrs. Godf- Lucy, I'm Kelly. Kelly Henderson."

"Nice name Kelly." The older woman smiled.

"Thanks." Kelly smiled back before turning to walk away.

Guess there's still some nice people in this hell hole.

Walking past the rows and rows of novels and textbooks, Kelly decided to pick a novel. She needed something to distract her from the cruel reality that was her life.

Moving her hands over the books, she looked and found the one that looked more interesting. Don't judge a book by the cover they say, that's exactly what Kelly does.

She picked the book out of the shelf and a pair of emerald green eyes stared at her from the other side.

"Hello." The person said. Kelly just rolled her eyes and walked away.

"Oh c'mon. Don't tell me you're not gonna answer me." The same voice said.

She looked behind her to see the big baby talking. He was big alright but looked nothing like a baby, if anything he looked more like a model. Like one of those Greek gods she'd seen in the magazines from her mom's company.

He wore a tight maroon tee with leather jacket and dark jeans paired with black Nikes. His black hair was tousled on his head stylishly like it was a mess but made on purpose. His emerald green eyes shining, his lips was pulled into a smirk and a dimple formed on his left cheek.

"Checking me out aren't you?" He said smugly.

"Nope. I was just wondering how you look so much like an orangutan."

"Liar."

"Leave me alone."

"You didn't deny it." His smile stretched wider.

"And you didn't deny that you look like an orangutan."

"Touché."

Kelly sat down on the empty seat and the boy sat beside her. He was beginning to annoy her, she came here for an alone time and he was ruining it.

"So what's your name?" He asked. Kelly noticed a pint of English accent mixed in his American one.

"Tell me yours first." She replied.

"You don't know my name?" He asked.

"Shockingly bro, the world doesn't revolve around you."

"Ouch did i just get friend zoned?" He clutched the skin above his heart. "Alright I'll tell you my name and you'll tell me yours. Deal?"

"Sure."

"Ian Smith." He said his name with such honour that you'd think he was from a royal family but who cares about royalty? Certainly not Kelly. "Now what's yours?"

"Some word that starts with a V." She waved her hands.

"That's not fair, I told you mine!" He exclaimed quietly, avoiding Lucy's warning gaze.

"I gave you an hint." She rolled her eyes. "And besides, life is generally unfair." She absentmindedly rubbed her eyes.

"You're mean."

"Says the bad boy." She rolled her eyes.

"Hmm, lemme guess." He said genuinely thinking.

"I'm not stopping you." She rolled her eyes, again.

"Valerie?"

"Nope."

"Victoria?"

"Nope."

"Vanessa?"

"Nope."

"Vivian?"

"Nope."

"Screw this! I'm tired."

"Keep guessing." She egged him on. She was actually enjoying this.

"Velania?"

"Nope."

"Valetta?"

"Nope."

"Valentina?"

"Nope."

He took in a deep breath. "I've got it!" He exclaimed. "If it's none of those then it's probably a really fancy name."

She snorted.

"It is....". He paused for effect. "Vinorita. Yes, Vinorita La Paspanitana."

She looked at him like he was crazed. "Is that even a name?! It sounds like a botanical name!"

He shrugged. "I'll go with it."

"Don't call me that".

"Sorry, didn't catch that. What did you say Vino?"

"Ian. I'll kill you."

"Yeah. In your dreams."

"I hate you."

"There's only a thin line between love and hate." He said pressing his thumb and index finger together to emphasize his point.

Ping.

A message came in and it wasn't for her. She looked at Ian and he rolled his eyes before typing away on his phone. She opened the book she picked for the first time since she picked it and curved her lip downward when she didn't like what she saw. It was a historical book. She hated history.

"So what's up?" She asked him.

"It's my friends...they want me to come to the cafeteria."

And for the first time, she wondered what he was doing here, in a library.

"So? Go."

He looked at her with a deadpan look. "Only if you follow me Vino."

"Don't call me that."

"Until you tell me your name, cheesecake."

"Cheesecake? Lord, how and why did I meet this guy again?"

"Well, we met by the bookshelves. Romantic uh?" Kelly rolled her eyes. It would have been if her life was cliché.

"And then why did you meet me?" He pretended to think. "Ha, I got it. It's 'cause, the day isn't complete without getting a look at this eye candy." He gestured to himself.

"Eye candy indeed." Kelly rolled her eyes. Again. And just as she wanted to give a remark, the bell rang signifying that lunch was over.

"Gotta go now. Bye Ian." She said picking up her bag.

"Bye Vino. See you around." He smiled at her while she gave him a scowl.

Kelly smiled at Lucy and then walked out the door hurrying to her next class. She glanced to her side and there, stood calmly were two boys talking to each other. They both looked like they belonged in a magazine just like Ian. They were probably his friends, she thought.

Picking the necessary books from her locker, Kelly walked to Calculus class with a frown on her face. She hated History but Calculus, she hated more than anything. Taking a seat at the back of class, Kelly sighed. She had been doing that a lot lately, she realised. She glanced at the board, the teacher was talking about some formula. Relaxing into her seat, she completely zoned out of the class. And that was how she survived every class except Biology which she had with Ian.

He would continuously disturb her, collecting her pen, writing in her book since he was sat beside her. Call her names, names of food, mind you.

'He is more annoying than Kevin'. Kelly concluded. When the closing bell rang, she was among the first set of people to get out. She texted Asher and Paris she was going to the hospital and began to leave until someone just had to call her name, well not exactly her name.

She ignored him and walked faster but before she knew it, someone was behind her and turning her around.

"Ian." She acknowledged as she looked up.

"Vino." He stated.

"If you didn't realise, I'm kinda on my way home?" She couldn't tell him she was going to the hospital.

"I want you to meet my friends."

"I'm not ready for any form of meet and greet Ian, let me go."

"Awwn, are you shy?" He cooed.

"Ian....". She drawled.

"It won't kill you." He rolled his eyes at her and began dragging her towards his car. By then, everyone was watching.

"Don't they have lives to live?" She muttered under her breath and Ian chuckled.

"So guys. I told you I made a new friend and here she is since you were doubting my capabilities to make friends." Ian said pushing her in front of the two boys she had seen when she was leaving the library.

One of them had black curls with stormy grey eyes while the other had ginger hair with sea blue eyes. The two boys had little resemblance, Kelly noticed. The shape of their head was the same and so was the shape of their nose.

"Guys, meet.... Vino. Vinorita La Paspanitana." Ian said dramatically and Kelly scowled at him.

"I'm sorry, no offence but Vino-what?" The one with the curls said while the one with the sea blue eyes looked pained, like a pity kind of pain.

"Please no need to wear that expression Bluey." She said addressing the blue-eyed boy."

"Bluey?" He asked.

"It's not fair! How come he gets a nickname." Ian said crossing his arms.

It's an established fact. Ian is a baby.

"Look, I  know it's hard for you, I'm really sorry you got that na-" Bluey began.

"That's not even my name. Ian here made it up". She cut in.

"She refused to tell me her name. She said it starts with a V, soooo.....". He shrugged and they rolled their eyes at him. The crowd that formed was no longer there, just a few students lingering.

"My name is Kelly. Kelly Henderson." She said.

"No fair! You said it starts with the letter V!" Ian said being the big baby he was.

"Well, sorry." She shrugged and he crossed his arms.

"Anyways....I'm Liam Storm." Bluey said standing straight against the car he was leaning on. "While this is my cousin Lloyd Storm." He said jerking his thumb towards curly.

'So he can't speak for himself, alright'. Kelly wondered.

"Actually, I was on my way so I'd better get going." She said.

"Let's give you a ride." Bluey said.

"Nah I'm good. Thanks." She didn't know her way around yet but that was what Google map was for.

She smiled at them and turned to leave, her long blonde hair spinning with her. She tucked it behind her ear and walked down the street, hopping into the bus.

She said a little prayer and wished that by the time she got there, Kevin would be awake and healthy.
