"I really like your hair." Lili said, making me smile as she read through her book, studying whatever she had to prepare for the day.
"Thank you. I chose to keep it down this morning, sometimes I like it in a ponytail, but today I felt like keeping it down." I said, and she smiled. Her beautiful brown eyes held a sense of strength, knowledge, and patience. And though she was young, I could tell that she was a smart little one.
"Do you like reading? Mom said that you wanted to learn how to read. Did you never learn before?" She asked, and despite the pain that I felt, I shook my head. It was a shame for me to admit that I never learned how to read or write, but I also knew that with the basics that I had, I knew that I was better than most who knew nothing about what I was doing and could do.
"No, unfortunately, I never got to learn before. I was too busy with other things." I said, and she smiled.
