Roselia could feel the tension in the air. She didn't need to set foot into Cruden's office on the top floor to know he was fuming. His rage seeped through the door cracks, crawling and grappling onto anyone who passed by. Even Noah flinched when they stood outside the study. He gripped her wrist, like a small boy with his mother. She was none the wiser.
The two gulped.
They had convinced each other to come up here, but opening the door was daunting. They both knew the big bad wolf would be on the other side.
Roselia knocked. Noah jolted. His head snapped in her direction, surprised that she was taking the initiative. She almost told him, 'Don't act like we dragged each other here kicking and screaming.'
"Not now, Noah."
Noah glanced helplessly at Roselia. That was Cruden.
Roselia licked her lips. "Can I come in?"
Silence.
A second passed. Then, another.
