"Scared?" Seeing Erwin's silence, Sam couldn't hold back and started taunting, the private room's occupants looking upon Erwin with contempt, barring Lina.
Following Sam's idea, defeat for Erwin was certain. So he pondered briefly; Sam's intent was to gamble for money. It was better to opt for a cruder, simpler method.
"What joy is there in guessing numbers? You just want my money, right? Drink a bottle of wine, you'll get 20 million, drink as much as you can handle, how about that? Enticing, isn't it? Exclusively for you."
Erwin's small smile lingered, as if unfazed by the impending expenses.
His statement provoked gaps from those inside the private room; even Rose and Sam hadn't anticipated Erwin's proposal.
But Lina beside him grew anxious, whispering in Erwin's ear.
"Let's call it off, Erwin, 20 million for a bottle of wine is excessive."
Sam smirked coldly, thinking Erwin sought to intoxicate him with several bottles, understanding his regular bar attendance and proficiency at handling alcohol; he aimed to shame Erwin.
"Erwin, since you've got a Ferrari outside, wouldn't it be dull if I drink all alone? Perhaps a few others would join me?"
Sam discreetly weighed Erwin's remaining funds. Erwin had a billion from the lottery, but had given 600 million to the hefty fellow, spent 100 million on the class reunion, and the rental car and actors must have cost at least 100 million , meaning Erwin likely had just about 200 million left.
200 million meant ten bottle of wine. No matter how good Sam was at drinking he couldn't do it alone, but besides Erwin and Lina, nearly ten people were in the room, so each needing only to drink one to two bottles would be enough to spend all of Erwin's money.
"Fine, if they're willing, I'll give them 20 million per bottle," Erwin declared with a slight smile, the sum a trifle to him.
After Erwin spoke, the room erupted; was this day's poor loser out of his mind?!
"I expect you to stand by your word." Sam's excitement couldn't be contained seeing Erwin fall for it, and he immediately wanted to request the wine, but Erwin stopped him.
"Why? Changed your mind?"
"I'd never change my mind, but why should I be the only paying for the gamee?" Erwin's smile lingered for today was the day to give Sam a lesson.
"What's your bet, just name it," Sam stated confidently. The private room held eleven people, each capable of downing a bottle of wine sufficient to bankrupt Erwin. And when Erwin failed to pay, Sam would genuinely relish revealing his masquerade.
"You win if you can drink until I'm broken, and I'll cover the whole bill for this private room. But if you fail to bankrupt me, I win, and you'll just pay the tab for my cousin's friends outside, deal?"
Erwin smirked, for he had laid a trap for Sam in their wager - his cousin's friends.
