Aether Beasts

Long ago a great calamity struck the earth, destroying much of it and merging what remained with pieces of other worlds. With these worlds came Aether, a new form of energy that can allow one to transcend the bounds of normal mortality and human limitations. In a world where humans absorb the essence of aether beasts to gain power, Aiden Hawke joins the class of humans known as arcanists, people who defeat aether beasts and absorb their essence into cores they forge within themselves, and who infuse themselves with the aether that permeates the world around them to increase the power of their body and mind. However, unlike most, Aiden will find that he holds a unique gift and that his journey as an arcanist will not be so simple.

Chapter 38(18+)

The next time I woke up was to the feeling of a warm hand on my forehead and a soothing voice.

"That's it," Zirani said, and I felt her hands move to my shoulders as I opened my eyes and tried to sit up. "Slowly now, your body will still feel a bit tired and no doubt there'll be aches. You took in quite the blast. I'm impressed that you managed to stay awake for so long."

I opened my mouth to try and reply but all that came out was a groan and cough. My throat and mouth felt as dry as a desert, and I tried to motion for some water, but then I realized I had the ring. I focused and a moment later a flask of water appeared in my hand.

Zirani picked it up and slowly moved it to my mouth. I took in large gulps, enjoying the cool feeling of the water as it passed down my throat. When it was empty she moved it away and began poking and prodding at my face, clearly checking to see if I was ok.
