The Clash

"How's it going?" A deep voice resounded in a dark room.

"It's going well, my King." Lighter than the other, another voice replied inside the room.

Although the room was void of light, both parties present could see themselves.

One party sat on a silver throne while the other knelt before him, clad in light leather armor that looked like ordinary clothes.

"Good. How far have we progressed?" The first voice, the one belonging to the one called King filled the room once again.

"Right about now, they would probably have encountered the beasts we prepared as presents for them." The kneeling figure answered.

Seeing the king nod, the kneeling figure tried to hold back his smile while the king spoke once more. "I see. What's their probability of survival?"

"The family head is estimated to be around Class Five as it has been over half a decade since anyone last saw him in action. Assuming he's still a Class Five, their probability of survival is close to zero but if he has advanced as suspected, they have close to a fifty percent chance of survival." The figure described the situation as short and detailed as he could.

"And I believe you've made plans for that, right?"

"Yes, my King." The figure still on his knees uttered before going on to explain more.

"Although there's a fifty percent chance of survival, it doesn't mean they'll come out of the fight unscathed. In fact, it'll be the opposite as half of them might not even survive while the other half would survive with serious injuries."

"After the fight with the beasts is over, the victors get to face a group of assassins I hired to clean the vicinity. No matter who wins, nothing will be left at the scene of the incident."

The king's hands left the armrest as they folded up, coming to the center of his chest.

Pa. Pa. Pa…

A clap. The king was clapping for this subordinate of his.

"Seeing as you've planned ahead this much, I'm proud of you. With this much preparation for them, nothing should go wrong except something out of the ordinary goes wrong." The king praised this subordinate.

'What could possibly go wrong?' The kneeling figure asked himself.

Returning his arms to the armrest of his throne, the king began to speak. "Provided this goes well, you'll be rewarded handsomely but!"

"If things go sideways, don't try to escape this as I'll find you in every hole of the earth. You have to take responsibility for your actions, isn't that so?"

"Yes, my king."

"Good. That's how a real soldier of my kingdom should behave. They should all have such a mentality."

"You may leave." The king ordered and so it was.

The kneeling figure rose and bowed before taking his leave.

"Since the lives of the kids seem overly sturdy, let's see what happens to the parents."

A wicked grin rested on the face of the king. The most wicked one in all of the Empire. The King of the rival kingdom of Nicadia.

King Vedor chuckled wickedly as he played with the armrest of his throne.

♠♠♠♠♠

While the King of Vedorg had set in motion plans to eliminate the parents of two geniuses he failed to kill, the so-called parents, and warded off these plans.

Bison-like beasts with black furs attacked Davyon. With teeth like serrated blades and two horns like shortswords, they pummeled everything in their way.

Boom!

Davyon's sword, imbued with a crazy amount of mana released a burst of flame that went out in an arc as it exploded upon contact with the beasts.

Davyon had pulled the beasts a few hundred meters from the carriage as he couldn't afford to go all out while his wife and son were close by.

Along with the head guard, Davyon had pulled away from the carriage.

The enemy had made plans to eliminate a Class Five magic user but Davyon wasn't one. He was a Class Six and so was his head guard. A variable the enemies didn't even consider at all.

Not only was Davyon a Class Six magic user, but he was also stronger than most Class Six magic users.

He could count as above average while the other, the head guard was considered average. Even at that, their enemies hadn't brought that into their plans as they didn't even expect the level of power Davyon was showing.

The assassins preparing for the ambush saw this scene and they had to wonder. Was this really how it was supposed to play out?

They were too fixated on Davyon as they didn't even notice the disappearance of the head guard.

As they went ahead, watching everything that played out, death approached their doorsteps.

Slash!

They didn't hear the first slash as it signified the death of one of them.

Thud.

A body dropped to the ground and the killer disappeared just as fast as he had appeared.

Slash!

Thud!

Another body dropped as the killer disappeared again.

Boom!

Somehow, the killer managed to eliminate each person at the same time as Davyon's explosion. That way, he didn't draw the attention of his targets. The predators now becoming prey to an unseen target.

Slash.

Thud.

This time, the dropping of the body alerted the others.

Seven assassins had come to kill, three were dead before they could even accomplish their mission.

They turned toward their fallen comrade just in time to see the eyes of the ally go lifeless as blood poured out of his chest.

"Scatter." One of them shouted and they spread out.

"Too late."

The head guard whispered from behind the one who just shouted, his sword digging into the back of the assassin and piercing out of the front.

Killing another assassin in the presence of his ally alerted the others of the head guard's position but before they could even attack, he vanished like smoke in the air.

Without a moment to delay, the others quickly bolted into different directions.

Staying together would be asking for the death of all of them.

Boom!

At this moment, Davyon's spell exploded again.

Fire spells seemed most effective on these berserk beasts as Davyon continued to only cast various fire spells on them.

Unknown to him, these beasts had been forced to drink something that made them berserk. Using fire spells on them, set their furs on fire, drying up every liquid in the body and making it easier to kill them.
