HOW DID WE GET HERE?

"Who's that?" Adelina asked, her voice bouncing off the empty cell.

Her eyes still hurt a bit for some reason and her bandaged hands throbbed.

She heard some movements before she felt a hand on her face and it moved down like the person was trying to see her through the hand.

"It's me" Adelina said as she held the hand which she found to be relatively smaller than hers.

"What's your name?" The voice asked.

It was smooth and gentle, carrying an angelic undertone with it.

"Adelina, you?" Adelina answered.

"Is that your real name?" The voice asked.

"No" Adelina answered.

"What's it?" The voice asked.

"Melanie, what's your name?" Adelina replied.

"My name is Violetta, real name Carolina" the voice stated, in response to the question.

"How long have you been here?" Adelina asked.

"A week" Violetta sighed,

"Well, do you know anything about a big event?" Adelina asked.

"No, how old are you?" Violetta asked,

"23, you?" Adelina answered.

"14"

"WHAT, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE?" Adelina yelled in righteous anger.

"I tried to tell them I was a minor, they didn't believe me" Violetta answered calmly, in a manner that sounded mature for a child her age.

"Why?" Adelina asked.

"Where's your hand?" Violetta asked feeling around her shoulders.

Adelina held Violetta's hand putting her hand into hers.

She felt Violetta take her wrist and placed her hand somewhere

Adelina groped it, trying to figure out what it was.

Whatever it was felt soft,

And large.

"Wait..., Is that your?" Adelina gasped.

"My breast?, Yeah" Violetta answered,

"I see, you look older than your actually are" Adelina said as she retrieved her hand from the girl.

"Exactly" Violetta sighed.

"I'll try to get us out of here" Adelina said as she walked up to the bars of the cell,

They heard some the sound of movement in the cell opposite theirs.

"Don't even try, it's impossible" A voice said from the other cell,

"She's right, even if you do manage to break out, you wouldn't get too far" Violetta added.

"Whatever" Adelina shrugged going to sit down right after.

The whole hallway was silent, no one dared to talk as everyone was just in the same state of mind,

Thinking of their past lives.

However, this was interrupted as the squeaking of wheels bounced off the walls and echoed through out the building.

"What's that?" Adelina whispered to her young companion.

"It's food, time for dinner" Violetta answered.

"What type of food is served here anyways?" Adelina asked.

"It depends on the cook's mood, especially when the boss is not around" Violetta shrugged.

"Have you ever seen the boss before?" Adelina asked as the sound of jingling of keys and cells being opened was heard.

"No, I've only heard of how dangerous he is, he's very very dangerous and definitely not to be messed with" Violetta informed her.

"Do you guys even have baths around here?, I feel sticky and grimy" Adelina complained.

"Yes, we do, you missed bath time, you'd have to wait till tomorrow" Violetta answered her.

"What if I have an emergency and need to use a toilet?" Adelina asked.

"There's one in the corner of this cell" Violetta answered.

"That's nasty" Adelina grimaced as she shuddered at the thought.

"I know" Violetta sighed.

"Do the lights ever get turned on or do we live as vampires?" Adelina asked.

"No offense, but you're asking a lot of questions and I'm hungry and tired since we only eat a measly quantity of food twice a day, anyways, the lights get turned on in the morning and shut off in the evening" Violetta sighed.

"No offense taken, but I need to ask another question, how big is this place?" Adelina asked again, respecting her earlier complaint.

"If you're still thinking of trying to escape, stop, this place is massive and extremely hard to navigate, last girls who tried, got killed, wouldn't want you to die, no?" Violetta asked as a strong Italian accent embraced her words as she rushed her English.

"You're Italian?" Adelina asked in surprise.

"Yes" Violetta answered flatly.

"Same" Adelina nodded, even if she couldn't see it.

"Do you speak?" Violetta asked.

"Yes, I'm very good" Adelina answered.

"Can you speak any other languages?" Violetta asked.

"Yes, you?" Adelina answered with a question.

"I can speak Italian, English, German and Spanish and I understand Latin and Russian but can't really speak it" Violetta explained.

"Well I speak English, Italian, Latin, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese and a little bit of Russian, I understand Korean and Brazilian but can't really speak them" Adelina shrugged.

"Wow, that's cool, what made you have interest in languages" Violetta asked.

"Well, I'm half Italian so it was only natural that I learnt it, English, Spanish, Latin and French were taught at school and I still studied further on it for fluency, I was intrigued by Japanese, as for Russian, My ex was Russian, I recently started learning Korean and Brazilian because of my clients, I wanted to make my language horizons broader to facilitate communication" Adelina explained.

"Were you a translator?" Violetta asked, trying to guess her job before this.

"Oh no, I owned a spa and a cosmetic facility but I guess I've lost all that now" Adelina sighed feeling heartbroken for the umpteenth time that day.

She felt Violetta move towards her placing her arms around her body in a way to comfort her.

"Sometimes I miss my mama, and even though school wasn't all that good to me, I still find myself missing it sometimes too" Violetta sympathized rubbing Adelina's back comfortingly.

"Why did you learn languages?" Adelina asked.

"My mama was a translator and I wanted to be like her" Violetta answered truthfully,l.

They finally heard squeaking wheels and footsteps walk up to their cage.

Next to come were the jingling of keys then the sound of the metal cell door opening.

A food trolley made of stainless steel was pushed into the cell.

Someone walked in and the cell was shut behind them.

Adelina could make out the figure of a woman in a white dress.

"Dinner" the woman's elderly voice said placing two bowls in front of them.

Adelina looked at the food suspiciously like every first timer had done.

"Who are you?" Adelina asked as Violetta took her bowl and started to eat.

"Santana Rowmas" The woman answered almost freely.

"You have a weird name, I don't like you" Adelina hissed.

"What are you doing?" Violetta whispered sternly.

"I didn't do anything wrong, I just said I don't like her name and she's weird" Adelina answered loudly.

"Leave the cell Rowmas" A husky voice said,

Adelina could feel Violetta shiver in fright but wasn't able to ask why as Santana stepped out of the room and a man took her place crouching to her height,

She couldn't really make much of him but she glared into his obsidian eyes, not frightened by his scary demeanor.

She had been through so much that day to be scared of a white man with black eyes.

"And what might your name be young lady?" He asked.

"057-25B-NYC" Adelina answered in a blunt mechanical tone.

"Not your code, your name" He muttered tucking some stray braids behind her ear.

"I'm Adelina, get your hands off me" Adelina said in a calm tone pushing his hands away.

"Adelina" the man said repeatedly letting the taste of the syllables roll off his tongue.

He smelt like stale cigarettes.

"I wish I had a mint with me, you really need it" Adelina sighed nonchalantly in a polite tone.

Violetta pinched her arm discretely.

The man chuckled.

"I like you" he grinned, backing up and away from her, preparing to leave.

"My middle finger seems to like you more, though it's a pain you can't see it since the lights are off" Adelina retorted, ignoring the pain in her arm.

This time, the man laughed out loud.

"Oh God, I can't wait to break you" He chuckled darkly.

Adelina blinked blankly like an empty container- a robot.

"I'm not an object, bozo" Adelina finally answered.

"Don't worry, once my brother gets back, I'll have you all to myself, think of your new life as being my little toy" He whispered into her ear suggestively.

"I'd rather be eaten out by a shark" Adelina answered without emotion in her voice.

"I love you already, you're so hilarious" The man laughed,

"I have the irresistible urge to kill you, think of it as hate at first sight" Adelina hissed.

"Sir, let's leave" Santana's frail voice called out.

"Till we meet again, princessa" the man grinned as he picked her hand, placing a kiss on her knuckles.

"Yuck" Adelina grimaced rubbing the kiss off using his suit.

Without a word, he stood up and met with Santana outside before the door to the cell was locked,

"What were you thinking?" Violetta yelled once they were out of hearing range.

"I don't think" Adelina answered.

"Why?, You better start thinking" Violetta gasped.

"No, that's too much work besides I have nothing to lose" Adelina answered.

"You could lose your life?" Violetta whispered.

"And it would be worth every drop of blood spilled."
