Chapter 35

Alex woke up at the loud noise coming from the vacuum machine. He put his pillow over his head in an attempt to block away the sound of the machine. It's the weekend and he wanted to sleep so bad. He's too lazy to get up.

"Hey Alex, you need to wake up already. You're meeting your mom today." Dan called out, temporarily turning off the vacuum in order for Alex to hear him. Alex groaned in response.

Dan continues cleaning the living room. Alex still has a few minutes to spare before he really needs to rush so he would let his friend sleep some more. It's been more than a week now that he is staying over at Alex's apartment, he knows he is already overstaying but he is still afraid to go back to his own place. Eric would sometimes try to contact him, he even tried to pester Alex in the hopes of talking to him. He initially planned to find a cheap hostel or something at least until his lease expires next month. Afterwards he'll find another place to live, somewhere Eric doesn't know but Alex insisted he stay so that his friend won't have to worry about him getting kidnapped by his drug addict ex boyfriend.

After fifteen minutes and no Alex coming out of the room, Dan heads inside to forcibly wake his lazy friend. It's really becoming a hard task to wake Alex up every morning, if he wasn't here that lazy Omega might not be able to come to work.

Dan was half expecting Alex to be curled up in bed and already preparing himself to wake the latter. Instead, he found Alex sitting on the bed, staring into space.

"Do you think I should have agreed to Keith's offer to come with me today?" Alex asked, startling his friend. Yesterday when he told Keith that they won't be able to meet today because he would be accompanying his mother for her annual medical check up, the Alpha offered to drive them to the hospital. Keith also wanted to meet his mom but Alex declined as he thought he should talk to his mom alone. However, his nerves are getting to him and he suddenly wishes Keith is with him right now to comfort him.

"Would you like me to come with you?" Dan offered. "I can hold your hand at least."

"Thanks Dan, I'm really glad you're here but I think I should really face mom on my own." Alex smiled at his friend.

"H-hello Mom! I'm here, where should I meet you?" Alex asked his mom on the phone. They agreed to meet up at the University Hospital but they didn't specify where exactly to meet.

"I'm at the coffee shop beside the reception." Helena replied to her son. She was so excited to see Alex again that she came way too early than their agreed meeting time.

Alex found his mother at the coffee shop just like she said but she didn't mention that she'll be surrounded by doctors and nurses. If anyone would see them, one would think his mother is some kind of a celebrity. In reality, he is completely sure those men and women hovering over his mother are those who are pining for his brother. Matt is sort of the most sought after bachelor in the hospital. He's tall, handsome and a dominant Alpha. No wonder these people are trying to curry favor with his mom.

It took a while for his mother to notice him and when she did she gave him a smile and a wave gesturing for him to come to her.

Alex was not sure but he thought saw his mother frowning at him but when he looked again his mother was smiling so maybe he was just imagining things. Afterall he was already nervous in anticipation of their meeting.

"I'm sorry darlings, my youngest son is here already, we should head to my appointment already." Helena said sweetly to her son's colleagues.

"It's alright Mrs. Fernandez, will come visit your restaurant when we have our off day." One of the doctors said to his mom as everyone bid Helana goodbye.

"My baby, come here give your mom a hug." Helena said as she opened her arms wide for Alex to hold. "I miss you so much Alex." Helena said, hugging her son tighter.

"Mom can't breathe." Alex complained but somehow relieved as his mom hasn't said anything yet.

"Okay let's go, I want this to be over soon so I could spend the entire day with my baby boy." Helena said, releasing Alex from her arms.

"Mom, I'm not a baby anymore." Alex said, pouting, making Helena pinch his cheeks.

"Yah! I wish you're still a baby so you won't leave my side." Helena replied, her voice cracking.

"Mom..."

"I'm fine. I just miss you so much." Helena said, smiling at Alex who looked worried over something. She then holds on to Alex's arms and leads him to where she would have her medical check up. "Let's go."

Alex waited for his mom outside at the waiting area, companions are not allowed inside the examination rooms but his mom told him he can join her at the consultation part.

While waiting for his mom he received a call from Keith.

"How are things?" Keith asked as soon as Alex answered the phone. The Alpha has been worried for his Omega as he knows how Alex succumbs to stress. He is worried about Alex throwing up again with no one by his side because the stubborn Omega would definitely hide it from his mother.

"Still okay. Mom hasn't said anything yet." Alex replied.

"Want me to come to the hospital?" Keith offered again, he was actually at the hospital's parking lot, ready to come to his Omega's side as soon as he asked him to come.

"Don't worry, it should be fine. I'm spending the day with mom, I will have the whole day to talk to her." Alex replied with a sigh.

"Alex, remember I'm here, we are in this together. Just say the word okay?" Keith said.

"Thank you." Alex replied before ending the call. Talking to Keith helped calm his nerves.

Alex thought his mom would immediately ask him because he knows that she can tell that something has changed with him. However, his mom hasn't said anything nor asked him any questions. Her avoidance of the subject is making him more anxious. He wishes his mom would just ask him, he finds it easier than opening up the matter to her.

Helena actually has a lot of questions she wanted to ask her son but she doesn't have the heart to ask Alex after seeing her son's worried face. The moment Alex came near her, she knew. She knew why her son has not been coming home for over a month now. She can tell from the scent coming from her son. There's a strong Alpha scent mixed with Alex's natural scent. It's too strong that she's afraid to know the truth.

"Mrs. Fernandez, are you okay?" The nurse taking Helena's pulse asked worriedly.

"I'm okay. I'm just excited to see my son. You see I haven't seen him in over a month and he promised to spend the whole day with me." Helena replied with a smile, reassuring the nurse.

"Okay Ma'am, you relax first then I'll take your blood pressure again." The nurse said, giving Helena time to calm down, otherwise she would inform the doctor of Helena's rapid heartbeat.

I should calm down, Helena told herself. She doesn't want Alex to worry too much. She knows her son is having a hard time right now thinking of how to tell her about what's going on with him. She trusts her son and Alex definitely have a reasonable explanation for hiding things from them. What worries her the most is what her eldest son's reaction would be.
