Secret exposed?

Chapter 8

Selina was resting on a feather bed when we got there. A huge ape was standing near her bed checking her pulse while mumbling something under its breath.

The ape has brown colored fur and he was wearing a headband made from feathers of different sizes and colors stringed together. The brown ape glanced at us for a second before he picked up the seven cowries near Selina's bed and he starts to dance around the bed while shaking the cowries in the hollow of his hands vigorously.

"The secrets of heavens

Laid bare before my eyes

The door of mystery

Conceals nothing from me

Reveal it to me

What was hidden

Shed light to the darkness

That Shields my eyes

Ptui!!!"

The brown ape shouted an incantation and spat at the cowries in his hands before gently spreading it on the ground.

The seven cowries lay scattered on the ground and the brown ape paused for a few minutes and glanced at me and my sick wife on the bed before sighing heavily.

"sigh! Can someone please help me call his Majesty, the King? Tell him he must be here within ten minutes, it's urgent." The old ape faced me and the few guards who followed me here and asked them to call the green king.

After the guards left the room, it remained me, Selina, and the brown ape who looked strangely familiar. It seems like I knew him from somewhere, but I can't remember seeing him anywhere in the human world and this is my first time here. The brown ape was also looking at me with a gaze filled with hostility as if I was an enemy who killed his whole family in one night.

I rushed to my wife to check on her but I was stopped by the brown ape before I could even take the second step.

"take another step if you don't love your wife anymore." The ape said while motioning for my wife not to speak.

As soon as the brown ape warned, I stared at him wide-eyed and he stared back with naked hostility in those pair of blue eyes. Then it dawned on me why this old thing had called for the green king; I have been exposed. My wife was not aware of my little monster fiancé, but I planned to tell her my plans when she woke up… everything has been flushed down the drain right now, there's no need to scheme anymore.

At this point, the shirt I was wearing was already soaked in water. My heart was beating wildly like a war drum, I can hear my heart beat clearly, it was without rhythm.

Different thoughts passed through my head as I was looking for ways to get myself out of this mess.

Should I take the brown ape hostage? Maybe there'll be a chance for negotiation.

But how can I control this bulky guy?

Or should I just tell them the truth and die happily with my wife?

Different thoughts passed through my mind like an electric current. I was shocked by those strange ideas I was having.

The reason for my fear is that, while the monster princess was drunk earlier, I asked her some questions about the green monsters tradition and she answered everything.

I asked her what will happen if the prince consort was married to another person before he married the princess.

"The prince consort and the family he had outside would be taken to the ancestral shrine and the prince consort will lose the ancestral protection if he was found guilty. And he would be made to fight the grand protector to redeem himself and be free from his sins if he won." The princess answered.

"as for the springs consort's family, they would be sent to the forest of no return where they'll be banished for life…" it was while Diana was saying this that the guard came to deliver the message that Selena had woken up.

Though there were some words that I don't understand, all I know is that I'm in hot soup if I was caught.

By the time the green king arrived, my cloth was already soaked in sweat and I was praying fervently in my heart for a miracle to happen.

"Welcome your Majesty!" the brown ape didn't even get up from where he was seated as he greeted the king with a nod.

(This Gangster didn't even give enough respect to the King.)

My heart jumped to my throat immediately after I saw the green king step inside.

"what's the matter old ape?" the green king looked at me weirdly for some seconds before asking.

"It's about the prince consort and the lady you brought here for treatment," the brown ape said while looking at my face (maybe to check my reaction) and I didn't disappoint. Though I was scared, I quickly controlled my emotions and acted as if nothing happened.

"What happened to her? Is she okay?"

"there's a secret between her and the prince consort that he failed to report immediately after he came to our land, and if care is not taken, it might lead to the death of both him and this young lady here." the brown ape looked at me for the umpteenth time before standing up from his seat. he walked towards me, checked my pulse, pry open my mouth with his ugly hand, and slapped my chest a few times before going back to his seat.

there's a tattered book at his feet, he picked it up and started flipping through the pages. we watched curiously as he flipped the pages of the giant book in his hands, praying silently in my heart for him to find whatever he was looking for as soon as possible. about two minutes later, he stopped flipping through the book, he used his index finger to trace the tiny words written on the book like a little child who's just learning how to read.

Bam!!

"your majesty, both of them didn't have much time left to live..."
