Chapter Thirteen: The Recall

Last time was fun but recently it replaced by so many surprises. Enrico has fired out in his job as Elizabeth’s private driver when her fiancé Julius proposed to Elizabeth two days ago after her eighteenth birthday. Her fiancé fired out Enrico mercilessly without any enough reason. Elizabeth on the other side has forgotten her true nature of being who she was. Everything that Julius commanded is yes for her without any objection. Sad to note that, Elizabeth reluctantly keeping Enrico as his private driver and bodyguard perhaps something wasn't right since it’s started after her eighteenth birthday.

Enrico packs up hectically in his room at Finnegan's mansion. His schedule to be returned to his old hometown at Bucharest, Romania this upcoming Friday, a couple of days from now and Mr. Filch will be his company. He’s halfway done in packing up everything except for those little things he could easily pull up. A matter minute and two, a door knock disturbs his room. He turns back from his position towards the door six o'clock from his direction, and unlocking it immediately. An apparition of Mrs. Finnegan comes to his vision. He offers her immediately to get in for any concerns she would be announcing unto him.

"Hello Enrico, can I come in?" Mrs. Finnegan reels.

"Of course ma'am, come in…" Enrico responds as he pulling up the door knob, opening it widely.

"Thanks, oh─ I'm sorry, it seems you're a little busy." Mrs. Finnegan seats in a chair.

"No, no─ ma'am, it's totally fine, anything I could help you?" he smiles and scratching his head.

"I didn't expect this point will come. However, I'm satisfied with your performance, maybe I could─ I could offer you a better job away from here." Mrs. Finnegan says.

Enrico pauses a few seconds, closing his eyes and twisting behind from Mrs. Finnegan. He purrs until he suddenly talks about something. Unfortunately, his dexterity in mind collapses his positivity to grab some offer, because of something makes him refusing eventually.

"Hang on a minute, ma'am. If I grab your offer, I'm sure your husband won’t accept and I don't want you to be bothered by this small thing. Perhaps, this job wasn't meant to me." he narrows his eyes to her.

"I understand your frustration lad, but let me help you instead. It's the least I can─ wait what is that? You smoke Enrico?" Mrs. Finnegan tunnels her sight towards the table.

"Oh, I'm so─ I'm so sorry ma'am. It's not mine, it’s from─" Enrico picks the lighter up.

"Where did you get this? Answer me─ how did you get this?" Mrs. Finnegan snatches the lighter to him and suddenly changing her tone of voice.

"It's from─ it's from, Mr. Wagers." Enrico answers.

The deafening silence seizes the entire room once more. It takes almost a minute before Mrs. Finnegan responds. She walks towards the windows, landing her hands to it, hunching against the window glass and suddenly burst into tears. Enrico baffles, worrying from Mrs. Finnegan’s action. However, he manages to still reconnect their blurring conversation.

"Ma'am, I'm so sorry if─"

"Where’s he now? Tell me, where is he now? Please tell... me please..." Mrs. Finnegan collapses into the floor and sobbing so constantly.

Enrico details the story about what happened to Mr. Wagers according to Mr. Filch's news so candidly. He narrates his past with this nobleman who treated him as his true son and look after him when he’s abandoned at the orphanage long years ago. Thenceforth, both of them sharing their tears of forlorn and weep of mourning for the loss of this man who they both loved. Mrs. Finnegan once more squint her overflowing tears from her eyes. She locks her sight to the silver lighter she snatching a few moments ago. She examines keenly the details of this thing. She dawns from her realisation that the letters carved in the lighter she holding belongs to her name Minerva Juliet Clearwater or MJC.

"I remember before. He used to have this lighter as his first gift for himself. When we met for the very first time, he confessed his feeling to me. I began to love him and this is the result. He carved my initials to this lighter as a sign of his promise to marry me. Our love bears the fruit of my womb, but he left us so suddenly without any clearer reason for leaving." Mrs. Finnegan shivers her voice whilst narrating her past.

"I'm sorry to hear─ wait, are you referring to Elizabeth ma'am? Enrico startles about his realisation.

"Yes, she's the fruit of our love that he wasted." Mrs. Finnegan gnaws her teeth for anger.

"No! Heed me ma'am─ please. He’s looking for you, but he failed because─"

"Because what?"

"Because… because… he's dead. I'm so sorry ma'am. I want to see him for the last time.” Enrico shivers his voice as he responding to her.

"No, no...It can't be...no...It ...can't...be. No!!!!!" Mrs. Finnegan shrieks and weeping eventually.

Enrico witnesses her unstoppable regret and remorse that consuming deep inside her. She almost faints as she crying thoroughly on the floor. However, a few moments later, the door opens and Elizabeth startles Enrico’s presence.

"What have you done to her? Why she's crying?" Elizabeth walks towards them warily and raising her voice.

"I'm sorry ma'am─ she just…just learns something she doesn't know." Enrico reasons out as he raising his head to answer.

"What sort of lies did you tell her? Are you trying to save yourself from being─ fired out? Huh... Mr. Newton?" Elizabeth bridges her eyebrows as she placing her hands to her hips.

Enrico succumbs to unveiling silence as he staring down at the floor and supporting Mrs. Finnegan's weakening body. After Elizabeth utters this blunting accusation, Mr. Filch and Mr. Finnegan arrive in time together. Mr. Finnegan’s face disfigures by wrath. He glares towards Enrico's blanking face. Enrico becomes speechless as Mr. Filch and Mr. Finnegan carrying Mrs. Finnegan towards her room.

"I regret trusting you Enrico...Julius is right. I can't trust you anymore..." Elizabeth glares at him.

"I'm sorry if you don't trust me. I never beg you even at once to trust me. Don't worry you will never see me again." Enrico sighs gaspingly.
