CHAPTER 29

CHAPTER 29

Jenna and Clarisse were having trouble dealing with the female Greenleaf.

Although injured, he was still fit enough to cause trouble for the two girls.

Every time a spell or arrow was thrown at it, it managed to dodge in time.

The beast attempted to attack the two girls, but its wounded hind legs made it nearly impossible to get near them.

When the beast's companion showed up, it thought it would be saved and would make these humans pay dearly for attacking it, but it didn't turn out that way.

Reily and the Greenleaf, in their back-and-forth fight, ended up moving away from the group.

The two girls could still sense Reily's presence nearby, so they knew he was still here.

The same goes for the beast, which tried several times to escape but failed miserably.

Finally, after the continuous combined attacks of Clarisse and Jenna, the beast died.

The girls took a few seconds to catch their breath, then hurried towards the direction Reily had moved with the beast.

They didn't have time to take the Greenleaf's corpse because they knew the beast Reily was fighting was more dangerous than the one they had just killed, so they had to reach him quickly to assist him.

They ran for a few seconds until they reached a small clearing a few dozen meters away from their battleground.

As they approached, they noticed that the sounds of fighting had ceased.

Both girls were alarmed by this, immediately thinking the worst.

"D-don't tell me he..."

Clarisse immediately panicked as she imagined how the fight between Reily and the beast might have ended.

"Calm down, let's check first.

He is strong, stronger than the two of us, so he might be able to escape from the beast if he couldn't defeat it," Jenna said as they both quickened their pace.

In no time, they had arrived at the edge of the clearing.

As they approached, they saw the signs of battle that had been left behind - ruined bushes and destroyed trees.

The two women wondered how intense the battle between the two Rank F must have been to cause all this damage.

But this didn't surprise them as much as the sight before them.

In front of them was a small clearing.

At the center of it were two figures lying on the ground.

One of the figure lay motionless on the ground, with its glassy white eyes wide open, and a sword embedded in its neck.

The other figure was crouching in front of the first figure, his back turned to them.

It was Reily.

Jenna and Clarisse were stunned by this sight, not expecting to find such a scene upon their arrival.

They knew Reily was strong, so they wouldn't be surprised if he managed to keep the beast away from their battleground.

They also thought that once he did, he might have a good chance of escaping from the beast, but they never thought he would be able to kill it.

If all three of them fought against it, they would have a good chance of defeating it, but defeating it individually would not.1

Yet before them lay the beast's corpse.

Clarisse noticed at that moment that Reily's body seemed to be trembling slightly.

It was an almost imperceptible tremor, but it was still there, and she noticed it.

Thinking he might have suffered some serious injury, she wanted to approach him, but like her friend, she couldn't bring herself to take a step towards him.

There was a strange atmosphere that seemed to envelop the two figures in the center of the clearing.

It was a strange, somewhat suffocating atmosphere.

For some reason, the two girls felt a shiver run down their spines as they looked at him.

Clarisse, who was starting to worry more and more, gathered her courage and spoke, her voice slightly trembling.

"R-Reily..."

***

After defeating the beast, Reily's eyes trembled slightly, while a crimson hue shimmered in them, coloring the iris of his eye.

[Congratulations, you have defeated an F-Rank Greenleaf stalker.]

[You have gained 150 EXP.]

[You have leveled up to level 6!]

Reily seemed not to pay attention to the system notifications.

His body trembled as he felt a strange euphoria after killing the Greenleaf stalker in front of him.

The sight of the red blood dripping from the beast was strangely beautiful to behold.

Very beautiful and also very tempting.

He could feel his canines elongate slightly as he felt a certain thirst hit him.

"No I can't I have to control myself.

Not now, not here.

M-maybe I could taste some."

He wanted to see more blood.

He wanted to sink his teeth into and devour the beast's blood.

He wanted to savor it and see how it was.

The temptation was getting to his head.

Just as he began to lose control, a voice from behind brought him back to reality.

"R-Reily..."

It was a soft, trembling voice.

It was a voice he knew.

He stopped trembling and tried to calm himself.

He slowly took deep breaths to steady himself.

Once done, he slowly stood up and turned to look at the two figures behind him.

"Oh, you've arrived," he said in his normal tone, leaving no trace of the aura that surrounded him earlier.

The two girls, no longer sensing that strange atmosphere from before, calmed down.

They wondered if it had been just an illusion.

Seeing that Reily seemed to be fine, Jenna spoke.

"We came as quickly as we could, but it seems you managed even on your own," she said, looking at the beast behind him.

"Ah, this?"

"Yes, it was difficult to fight it, but I was lucky enough to land a fatal blow," he said as he turned to retrieve his sword from the beast's corpse.

The sword was stained with blood, which ran along the blade and dripped to the ground.

Reily took a rag from the pouch at his waist and wiped it clean.

The two girls, seeing that he seemed to be okay, didn't ask any more questions.

Their impression of him had once again increased.

They knew luck had little to do with facing a beast like that.

They had seen some of his battle skills before, and they could tell he had a lot of battle experience against monsters, more than he should have for his age.

Jenna didn't know how to feel at the moment.

Technically, being the oldest in the group, she should have been the more experienced one, but when she compared herself to the boy in front of her, she couldn't help but have doubts about who was more experienced.

Clarisse felt somewhat the same way.

It didn't take Reily long to wipe the blood from his sword, and once he did, he returned it to the sheath around his waist.

Then he looked at the sky for a moment and said.

"Well, we should hurry to deal with the corpses of the two beasts and return to Andris City," he said as he pulled out his dagger and prepared to retrieve the useful materials from the Greenleaf.

Jenna and Clarisse understood what he meant, and they also moved.

With their help, Reily finished working on the beast's corpse and immediately moved on to the one defeated by the two girls.

They took the mana core, some other parts of the two corpses, and finally the two tails, and headed towards the Town of Andris.

'The mission went better than I thought,' Reily thought, as he looked at the gains from today's hunt.

It wasn't wrong to say that this was his best hunt so far.

Not only had they completed the mission, bringing back an extra tail, but they had also obtained many good materials from the three beasts, and a total of three mana cores.

'Maybe it's time for me to find a better place to reside,' Reily thought as he thought of his little hut.

For a while now, he had been thinking of moving to the residential area of the city, and now with the addition of the earnings from this hunt to his savings, which already amounted to some gold coins, he thought it was the right time to do so.

And here's today's chapter.

I hope you enjoyed it, and as always, feel free to leave a comment about any errors/changes, etc.
