-----Yui's POV

Last night, Kaede did return, but only stopped by for a bit after realizing me and my parents were having dinner. I was worried that she might not return, but just seeing her for a brief moment cleansed all my worries. We even texted throughout the night until I fell asleep which I felt was really comforting. Apparently she was practicing with her sister, Selene again, this time practicing the actual magic crest that will allow both their worlds to connect. It's still a scary thing to imagine... Like what happens once the worlds are connected? Will monsters and demons start flooding into this world? Or will the humans in this world take up arms and start shooting everything in the other world? It's really scary to think about, but I know that Kaede wants this, so I'll just keep my worries to myself for now.

Once morning came around, after eating breakfast with my family, I set on out to meet with Kaede at the train tracks. And as usual, I'm instantly drawn into her presence, as she makes everything else around her appear muted, and dull. And her smile as well... It's so inviting. Before I know it, I'm already at her side.

Kaede: "Sleep well?"

Yui: "Mm. How about you?"

We cross the train tracks while beginning to talk, making our way to school.

Kaede: "Oh, I don't really sleep most nights."

Yui: "So I guess that's the same..."

Kaede: "Hmm?"

Yui: "Oh, I was just thinking like, what are the differences to our ideas of a vampire, compared to the actual thing."

I've witnessed it plenty of times, but Kaede definitely doesn't seem bothered by the sun, and she does require blood, but so far that's the only two similarities that I can see. Although some vampires from stories don't like the sun, I'm glad that's not the case here as I'm able to walk side by side with Kaede.

Kaede: "Hmmm. Well I never tried stabbing myself with a stake. We could try that?"

Yui: "D-don't do that!"

Kaede: "Pfft. Kidding~"

Yui: "Wait, then what about garlic?"

Kaede: "We used garlic in one of your dinners, remember?"

Yui: "R-right..."

Vampires sure are different. Maybe in fiction we gave vampires a lot of weaknesses due to how powerful they are? Because after seeing Kaede fly and even... Slicing a man's head off like it was nothing... I can see why we made up things for vampires to be afraid of.

Kaede: "Oh, but just to let you know. I'm actually a vampire from royal decent, which are apparently stronger vampires than normal ones."

Yui: "What?!"

Kaede: "Fufufu. Yeah. So maybe your description of vampires are accurate. But just maybe I can withstand the weaknesses other vampires might have issues with."

Yui: "H-have you even met another vampire in the other world?"

Kaede: "Nope. Well, not one that I didn't create. Vampires were mostly extinct as far as I was aware in that world."

Yui: "I see..."

...

We continues to idly chat about vampires until we finally got close enough to school where a lot of students began to gather, causing us to start talking about more normal things.

Yui: "So what kind of score do you think you got?"

Kaede: "Fufu. You'll see~"

Emi: "Ah! Kaede!"

Maria: "Good morning!~"

Once we made it inside to change shoes, both Emi and Maria rushed over to greet us.

Kaede: "Have you two seen the post yet?"

Emi: "Nope!"

Maria: "We wanted to wait for you to see it together."

It didn't take long for us to change into our school shoes, and once we entered the main hall. A large group of students were all huddled around a particular wall. I guess this is what Kaede was talking about yesterday. Thankfully the post seemed to be a bit high, allowing us from the back to see it, but it was still hard to see the bottom of the list. However, what was most surprising was the number one spot. Or actually, I guess it wasn't that surprising...

Notice: "1. Kaede Nakashima - 1,000"

Sitting at the very top with a perfect score was none other than Kaede herself.

Kaede: "Ah~ I honestly didn't expect that, hehe."

At Kaede's words, many of the students in front of us looked back, and upon realizing who it was, began moving to the side, making room for us, almost like Kaede herself is some kind of celebrity. But it did allow us to see more of the notice board.

Notice: "24. Yui Kimura - 850"

Yui: "...Barely, huh."

Not bad though. So I averaged around an 80.5 across all the exams. My parents should be pleased about that.

Maria: "Kaede!"

Emi: "What the hell? Since when were you capable of that?"

Kaede: "Luck I guess?"

Emi: "Hey, but you're one to talk Maria!"

At Emi's words, we all looked back at the notice board to see where Maria stood.

Notice: "2. Maria Taylor - 970"

Maria: "Ehehehe~ Well I just see it as I still need improvement."

Emi: "You're crazy..."

Maria: "Hehe."

Surprisingly though, Emi's score isn't posted up there, despite being in class-A.

Kaede: "Hmmm~ I wonder what score Emi got?"

Emi: "Don't even think that I'm gonna show you!"

.....

...

Eventually, we had to split up and go to our own separate classes where we got handed our test papers back. Looking at all of my papers, it seemed like my biggest struggle was history, only scoring a 71 on it. It's a passing mark for sure, but it probably didn't help with my total score. My best was math, getting a score of 94.

Chiyo: "Kay!~ Yui, time to compare."

Yui: "Fine~"

I watch as Chiyo splayed out her papers with mine as she darts her eyes on all of our papers. I also do the same, but I notice something quite peculiar. And it seems like Chiyo also noticed.

Chiyo: "You suck at history."

Yui: "And you suck at math."

Our papers were essentially the same all around, besides those two tests. Chiyo scores a 90 on history, but she barely managed to pass on math, getting only 62.5.

Yui/Chiyo: "...Pfft! Hahaha."

We can't help but laugh at our papers as we begin to tidy them all up. I guess making friends with Chiyo wasn't a bad idea at all. We're both solid with every other subject, but we can help each other with our weaknesses.

Chiyo: "Looks like I'll be relying on you in the future!"

Yui: "Haha, I was thinking the same thing."

My rival in sports, but partner is academics... Quite an interesting relationship I must say.

...

It didn't feel all that long when lunch came around as we all sat at the same table like before. This time with Shin joining us.

Yui: "I'm sure I don't need to ask how well you did, right?"

Shin: "Ahh~ Cut me some slack. Hey I managed to pass three of my tests!"

Yup, a total delinquent. But I know that he'll try harder on the more important exams, but these tests would surely impact him somehow.

Aki: "Fufu. How did everyone else do?"

We all say our praises, as we all passed every single test, including Emi who I thought would've struggled, but apparently she barely managed to pass all her tests as well, cutting is close in chemistry with a score of 60. Quite literally the passing benchmark. Any lower and she would've failed.

Aki: "Be sure to study up then, Emi."

Emi: "Yes~"

Yui: "What about you, Aki?"

Aki: "Oh, you didn't see the notice board?"

Right... We only checked on the first years... I forgot Kaede mentioned that the second and third years have their own separate rankings.

Aki: "Well, you can check it later, but I got a total of 980."

Chiyo: "Th-that's surely number one, right?"

Aki: "Actually, I tied for first. I guess the second years are quite competitive, hehe."

Emi: "But did you see, Kaede's? Like what the hell? A perfect score?"

Maria: "Yeah. It's really impressive."

I feel as though our idol, Kaede has only become even more so an idol with her display just now. I can only imagine the amount of love letters that will be sent her way. Like who could blame them? A star in both sports and academics... It's like she doesn't like to show any sort of weakness. But I guess I'm lucky in that regard, knowing where her heart lies. And as if right on que, Kaede and I look at each other and share a quick smile before continuing to eat our lunch with everyone else.
