The Start of Phasing and Seeing Someone New and Unexpected

Seeing this new face, I was momentarily distracted me from the newly awakened energy slowly rushing around my body.

Her long hair was an unusual bronze shade, and her lips were full and pink. Her eyes were like liquid gold floating around in her eyes. She looked quite petite and couldn't have been over 5'2" at most but I could tell that she had curves in all the right places.

She was absolutely stunning.

But she wasn't in my memories. Neither was she in my memories about the Twilight Films or the Books. Who is she? Where did she come from?

Looking over at Jessica who was looking at me stare at this mysterious girl, I spoke up, "Who's that new girl? I've never seen her before."

"Oh? Does Mr. Swan have a crush?" smiling, Jessica tried to tease me but seeing my serious face and lack of reaction, she rolled her eyes before giving me an answer, "She's a distant cousin of the Cullens. She just moved here. I think her name was Edythe or something," she stopped for a second before seeing the weird look on my face, "Weird, right?"

Jessica went on to start gossiping about how old that girl's name is but I ignored it.

Because I knew that name.

Edythe.

Edward's counterpart in Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined. Why was she here?

Unknowingly, my gaze flowed over where my sister was looking to; the Cullens. And I couldn't stop looking at Edythe. It got to the point where the girl looked back and squinted her eyes before seeming to sniff the air.

Shit.

Looking away, I hoped to god she didn't realize I was a Shapeshifter in phase. I needed to be at least a bit into my phasing if I wanted to take on a vampire in terms of physical prowess. Or at least I guesstimated.

Anyway, I kept my head down from that point and just ignored the energy begging to be used inside my body; it was like being a generator for energy with nowhere for the energy to go after it was produced.

Eating. I focused on eating even if I could feel a pair of eyes centered on my back. I ate the cardboard like pizza on my plate, making a limited amount of conversation with Bella and the others, which seemed to worry Bella a bit. I can't blame her, either, any other time I'd be the social butterfly keeping the conversation chugging along. But right now the threat of having some Vampires find out who I was was taking up my mind along with ways to fight them off.

Hey, I'm not some idiot who won't go into a fight without a plan. If those bloodsuckers come at me, I wanna at least be prepared.

Wait. Prepared.

What did that God say to me? That I'm a living being and will be able to improve my strength, right?

The cogs of a decent plan were starting to form inside my head and I realized what I had to do; see if I could rush along my phasing with exercise, or to see if the benefits from my phasing increase if I exercise intensely enough.

At least that way I'll be able to deal with Vampires quicker or when I finally fully complete the phase, I'll be able to deal with them easier.

Feeling some life injected into me again, I felt a hand shaking me out of my thoughts along with the bell ringing.

"Alex, come on, lunchtimes over," practically dragging me up, Bella seemed to be taking glances in Edward's direction now and then.

Haah~ Guess it's gonna happen even with the changes that have happened. Welp, Edward, you hurt my sister and I'll use you as a toothpick.

Mentally threatening my sister's future husband, I got up and walked off with Bella, having to take her off to her next class, as even if she had a map, it was just easier for me to take her to the class rather than have her wandering around like a headless chicken.

Dropping her off in what looked like Biology, I walked off knowing her and Edward were about to start their story or whatever you'd call it now.

Meanwhile, I was off to History. Fun.

Getting there wasn't a problem and finding my seat was even easier as I let myself sink into the hard plastic, preparing for the boring lesson I caught something in the corner of my eye; someone entering the room with the teacher.

Bronze colored hair. Almost impossibly metallic looking as it shines under the light coming in through the windows.

Our eyes meet. My brilliant blue and her gorgeous gold. Even when compared to her siblings' gold eyes, this girl's eyes just seemed...shinier. More enticing.

Her gold eyes darted away from our connected gazes as if scared of something before talking with the teacher about something. The teacher shook her head before pointing at the desk next to mine. Oh.

She just tried to get herself moved. Does she know? But I've only just started my phasing, shouldn't my scent still be mainly human at the minute?

Oblivious to my thoughts, Edythe walked over to the desk and sat down.

Deciding I should be polite, I put my hand out between us before speaking, "Hey, the name's Alexander but please call me Alex. Are you new here?" I tried to put my most charming smile on for reasons beyond even me but she merely glanced at me and then my hand before turning back.

Just when I put my hand down and sighed at the failed 'diplomacy' I heard her speak.

"Yes, I'm new to this school."

Her voice was...unnaturally smooth and melodic. It was like it was made to tempt people, to wrap people around her little finger and have them do whatever her voice asked. It was only marred by the hollowness present like there was nothing behind the voice in terms of emotions.

Deciding I had to try and keep it light now that she'd responded, I innocently asked something. "So, what's your name? I've told you mine but you've yet to tell me yours," again she looked at me from the corner of her eye, the golden orb almost...analyzing me. But something did surprise me. She had a slight flash of anger or annoyance flash through the eye I could see. Like she couldn't figure something out.

Probably the latter as well. She probably thinks I'm a fragile little human or something. But what she said next kinda surprised me.

"You already know my name, don't you? You asked that girl on your table when I was walking past," her cold voice entered my ears and despite feeling like it was freezing me to the core, I sincerely felt like I was hearing the most wonderful piece of music.

'What's happening to me?' is all I could think when I reacted like this to her. To whatever she did. It was like I was obsessed.

But before any of that could truly distract me further I looked at her with a raised eyebrow, knowing for sure that I asked Jessica about Edythe when she was at the table with the other Cullens.

"You were at the table with your adoptive siblings when I spoke to Jessica. When you walked past us I was eating," I lied a little toward the end - I wasn't eating, I was staring at her.

Goddammit, Alex, you're being a major creep!

But other than that, I was seriously calling her out on what she said, and it seemed to have worked as she turned her head fully toward me. Her eyes locked onto me with a bit of self-admonishment in them.

Ah. It seemed I'd annoyed her some way and she blurted that out. Not very mature for a vampire over a hundred years old.

She scoffed and went to answer me but before she could, a gust of wind came in through the window next to me and blew past me and into her face, carrying my scent. At first, she stopped moving, like a frozen statue and I got worried she had finally found out what I was.

But when I looked at her face, more specifically her eyes, I could see that her pupils had dilated very heavily, like she was high or something. I saw her lick her lips a little before finally she seemed to catch herself as she looked up at me like a deer in the headlights of a car before quickly turning back to the front of the class, whatever her earlier comment was, it was for her to know as she didn't even look directly at me, let alone speak with me.

But I did see that she kept taking glances at me, all the while sniffing the air.

...Am I like Bella? Is my scent delicious to Vampires or something? Am I Edythe's singer or something?

So many questions, so little answers. I just need to focus on the class or whatever for now and after school, I've gotta go to the woods to do some running and exercise.

In the lesson, we had to pair up and discuss some events about the first World War and despite Edythe coming up with some brilliant points - mainly due to her presumably being alive at the time - she didn't say much and only spoke in short, concise sentences. She wouldn't even look at me while she spoke either.

So, I think I was right. I'm like my sister in the fact that my scent drives Vampires wild. Or just like Bella is to Edward, I'm Edythe's singer.

Not a positive, to be honest. Any minute Edythe could lose control and kill me. That's the appeal of a singer to their vampire - their personal brand of heroin, made personally for them. If I am her singer, my blood practically sings to her, calling for her to drink me dry. Hence the name 'Singer'.

I'm lucky Edythe seems to share the control she had in the book, just like Edward.

The lesson went by with both me and Edythe trying to think about different things to distract us from thinking about the other but for vastly different reasons. I was distracting myself so I didn't think about the risk I was in. While she distracted herself so she wouldn't think about my scent...Oh wait, we're practically thinking about the same thing.

Haah~ This is frustrating and only reinforces my thought on working out and seeing if it affects anything.

As soon as the lesson finished, Edythe shot up out of her desk and practically ran out of the room.

Unlike Bella, I understood why she did this, so I just let it go and got up to leave myself. I had one more lesson and that was it; I was free for the rest of the day.

. . .

Looking around myself, I saw endless trees for as far as I could see. This would do.

Putting my bag down, I took my jacket off, feeling it was unnecessary as I wasn't that cold anymore. Must be because of the energy.

On the way over I started to concentrate more on the energy in my body. It was a minuscule amount and only seemed to be changing things slightly; adding a minute amount muscle here and there, adding an unnatural toughness to my skin and the rest of my organs. But I knew these changes, while little right now, would soon add up and snowball into a complete and utter evolution of what I once was and what I'll become.

Finding a low branch on one of the trees, I tested them all before finding one which could easily handle my weight before I started doing pull-ups.

This was the start of my workout routine. I'd start with pull-ups before moving onto squats, sit-ups, press-ups and finally, I'd do a lot of stretching to aid in muscle recovery and growth.

I'd also decided to sort out a diet to see if it improved my physical condition. Protein heavy was one way to put it. Protein and calcium heavy if we're gonna be specific.

Anyway, I decided to push each of these muscles groups to their maximum before moving onto the next exercise. The weird thing was...that I didn't seem to be getting tired? The energy seemed to constantly heal the fatigue my muscles experienced and along with this healing, the exercises got easier.

Oh.

Oh my god.

Suddenly I began laughing to myself as I stopped my exercising. I was laughing purely because of joy and not because I'd found something funny. Fun, yes. Humorous, no.

If I was healing my muscles back incredibly quickly because of this energy, doesn't that mean I can transform my physique at an incredibly fast rate? Yes. Yes, it does*.

(*A/N - This is complete OC. It's not really talked about in the books, at least I don't think it is, so I'm just making Shapeshifters and the Phasing more interesting. The energy isn't like Ki or anything - it can't be used for energy beams or anything anime-like - it's just like he has incredible stamina. The energy fuels him and everything he does. So his workouts are fueled by the energy and made more efficient because the energy heals wounds.)

And with this, I got on with my exercising, pushing myself to my limits and beyond and by the end of it, I could swear I saw some more clear definition in my musculature.

Picking up my coat and my bag, I broke out in a sprint wanting to see if the same thing applies to sprinting as it does to other forms of working out.

And as you'd guess; it does. I could sprint for as long as I want, though pushing through the pain of my limits wasn't very comfortable, it was bearable.

However, something told me that this constant improvement wouldn't last for long and once the energy started actively changing my physique, I'd have to increase the intensity of my workouts to even get meager results. But I was prepared for that. I knew it wouldn't be easy but I was still willing to try because if I didn't I could end up getting killed by something.

And like this, an entire week passed by.
