Facts?

Annabelle looked towards the door. Slightly groggy from the night before. 'Why does everyone make so much noise in the morning?'

"Annabelle, are you awake?" Shelly's voice drifted through the door.

"Yea." She buried into the bed. Not wanting to get up.

"Can I come in? I brought you some of Lewis's old clothes. Hopefully they fit."

"Sure, thank you." Annabelle got up in order to take the clothes from Shelly.

"Just let me know if you need anything. There's a towel in the bathroom, feel free to use the products already in the shower. I left a new toothbrush on the towel, and there's a small toothpaste bottle near the sink."

Annabelle smiled at Shelly as she took the clothes. "Thank you so much. Is it the same bathroom that I used last night?"

"Yes, when you're done just leave your dirty clothes in the hall and I'll wash them for you. Also, breakfast will be ready in five to ten minutes. So, when you finish come on down. What would you like to drink? Coffee, milk, tea, or apple juice?"

'Oh sh**, what even are those things? Why didn't any of this translate when I touched John? I should've been able to learn Pasefien equivalents when I heard them. Ugh, I give up. How come none of my powers work the way they're supposed to.'

"Um, milk?"

"Alright, I'll have Lewis get you a cup. Do you have anything you can't or won't eat?"

"No?" Annabelle paused.

"Okay, go ahead and use the shower, call me if you need anything."

"Thanks." She followed Shelly out of the room, turning into the hallway bathroom.

Closing the door, she slumped against it.

'This is going to be so much harder than I thought. Nothing is translating to a Pasefien equivalent. I'm going to be lucky if I pass as a crazy human, much less not get caught…' She would have started banging her head against the door but thought that might gain attention she didn't want right now.

'Alright, how do you work this contraption…' She looked at the tub in front of her. There was a faucet at the top that had piping leading to the handles.

'So, water probably goes from down here to the top, but how? Usually red corresponds to hot, and blue cold. Right? Hopefully it's the same here as in Pasef.' She turned the red knob, when water began flowing out of the spout on the bottom, she stuck her hand in. The water wasn't hot, but it was heating up.

"Okay, so now I just have to get the water to divert from here' She looked at the faucet, 'to there.' she looked up to top faucet.

As she looked around, she saw that there was what looked like a pin on the bottom faucet. 'Maybe it has something to do with this?' She tried pushing the pin, when it didn't budge, she pulled. Suddenly water started shooting from the showerhead.

"Ah." She jerked out of the way; the water was really hot. 'Jeez. I guess I need to turn the blue handle as well…'

It must have taken her thirty minutes to take a shower, brush her teeth, and put Lewis's old clothes on. Dumping the dirty laundry out in the hall she meandered down to the dining room.

"Hey, I was just about to come check on you." Shelly smiled at her.

"Sorry, I'm not used to that type of shower, so it took me a bit longer to figure out how to work it."

"No worries, I kept your plate in the oven so your food would stay warm. Lewis can you grab her milk from the fridge, I'll."

She was interrupted by John. "Honey stay here, Lewis will get the milk and I'll get the plate. You finish eating."

"Alright, thanks love. Annabelle come sit here, what would you like on your pancakes?"

"Why are you so nice to me?" Annabelle couldn't help but blurt out her question. "I'm a random kid that your husband found outside." She didn't bring up the fact that she wasn't telling them about her 'guardian' because the longer it took for that to be brought up the better.

"Even if we aren't sure about you, you're still a kid." John answered as he came back from the kitchen. "A lost one at that. I do need you to eventually tell me a contact number or your full name, but that can wait till tomorrow. Since today both Shelly and I have appointments that we can't miss."

He paused and looked at Annabelle. "Don't think I've forgotten, someone out there is looking for you right now."

She looked away. 'Sure, though not for the reason you think…'

"Why do you keep talking about humans like you aren't?" She deflected. Remembering the snippets of conversation, she had heard at dinner. She watched them closely for reactions.

John didn't even flinch, but Lewis almost dropped the cup he was carrying. Shelly managed to not flinch, but she did look at John for a brief second.

"What do you mean? Haven't you ever slipped and accidentally said 'human' as if you weren't? Everyone does it once in a while." Lewis butchered his response.

John did react this time, but it was more of an internal sigh.

"Thanks Lewis, you probably should have just pretended it didn't happen." Annabelle smirked. "So, you three aren't human? What are you then? From the lack of reaction, you had after the initial shock. It makes me think that humans aren't the only ones on the planet, or at least it's not unusual for us to have powers."

"So, you're human?" Lewis picked up on her use of 'us' while she was speaking.

She ignored him, not commenting in this case was easiest.

"We'll have to discuss this later. Lewis remember what we spoke about. Shelly, we have to leave." John was annoyed that they had to leave but knew it couldn't be avoided.

'So, the adults are leaving the kid in charge of me? Wow, what a great opportunity. Even if I can't leave right away, I can definitely get more information from him.' Annabelle tried to keep the smirk off her face.
