Several years has passed since she met with a god and was subsequently reincarnated into another world, though she wasn't quite sure which world she ended up with exactly. For all she knew, it closely resembled the "earth" she previously remembered. The only key difference being a few deviation in history, but nothing else that would warrant much of her interest. It was just a normal world by all standard, set in a modern period as you would expect.
However, if she had to speak about something, then it would have to be that tragedy which consumed a large part of her childhood.
It was a catastrophic incident that left much of Fuyuki City irradiated, reaping the vast majority of lives in an instant. An accident of some kind resulting from a nearby power plant. Now, only faint traces of the city remained and turned into vitrified debris. To this day, the city is still largely inhospitable for any biological life to prosper, yet environmental efforts have been taken to reclaim the land from radiation.
However, as far as she's concerned, the tragedy was already behind her. It was as if it didn't affect her at all considering how fast she recovered from the loss of her biological parents who were both claimed by the incident.
Of course, she knew it was wrong, that it was cruel.
Perhaps it was due to her experience with death and reincarnation, but she found herself unable to hold the value of life in the same regard as she once did. Her heart just felt empty, like it was devoid of emotion. But it didn't feel like it bothered her all the same, so she never tried to remedy this problem. In fact, it felt like it was convenient since it allowed her to remain detached throughout the whole ordeal.
Fortunately, she was shortly adopted by the same man who rescued her underneath the rubbles of a collapsed building along with an older child who suffered the same fate. Together, they formed a small family of three and lived happily thereafter...
That was until---
"Onii-chan, breakfast is ready!"
A cute and bubbly voice resounded across the estate, resonating with the melodious chirping of birds in the waking world. Standing by the detached shed, with her modest chest propped up, was a lovely little girl, whom despite her exasperation, did not take away from her inexplicable elegance.
Currently, she was enjoying life in her adopted family, a happiness she didn't know she had in her emptied heart. Before that tragedy transpired, she never would have thought such possibility existed. Yet here she was, an expression that matched blooming flowers in spring, wearing a smile that was lovelier than the fairies extolled in fairy tales -- cheery as one can be.
After a short while, sensing that her older brother wasn't waking up, her expression began to go awry. Nevertheless, the sight of her bulging cheeks as the little girl pouted merely made it look appealing to tease her all the more.
"Onii-chan, wake up! Breakfast is ready!" the girl shouted once more, her voice rang like chiming bells.
There was an audible crash from within. Following that, the sound of falling boxes greeted her ears as she gasped in horror. The ruckus continued for a while, accompanied by rumbling and tumbling from time to time. Finally, once the noises have settled, she heard a feeble groan crept out behind the door.
"Are you okay Onii-chan!"
"I'm up... Manaka."
Yes, that's right.
Manaka Emiya --- that was her name.
"Hurry--"
Just as she was about to open the door to see what happened, Manaka was bewildered to stumble upon a holographic display suddenly appear right in front of her eyes. From the looks of it, it looked like some sort of invitation notice floating in midair. She subconsciously blinked a few times to see whether or not she was hallucinating, but the screen remained present in her vision.
'A chat group...?'
「Welcome to the Multiversal Chat Group!」
「A trans-universal messaging app that connects individuals across different realities, one that bridges the gap between the boundaries of universes. Do you wish to join?」
「Yes」「No」
Looking at the invitation, Manaka wasn't surprised anymore at this point. After all, she has witnessed a being that was tantamount to a god, reincarnated, and went through what can be considered a traumatic experience once in two lifetimes. The fact that a holographic display emerged out of thin air didn't seem farfetched of an idea to her.
Nonetheless, Manaka gave it some thought for a moment before accepting. The part about 'different realities' alone was worrying enough, plus she had no way to guarantee if the other members wouldn't pose any danger to her and her family, so she had to carefully consider her actions. But then again, it would be a lie for her to say that she didn't find the offer tempting at all. If anything, she was curious to find out what this mysterious chat group could offer. Thus, Manaka decided not to refuse the invitation outright.
She systematically weighed in the advantage and disadvantages of a multiversal chat group one by one, attempting to come up with an appropriate course of action.
That said, she didn't have a lot to go about either other than the fact that it was a messaging app that supposedly transcended universes...
What's the worse that could happen?
Suddenly, the door creaked open prompting Manaka to tap the「Yes」button by accident.
"O-onii-chan!"
"Manaka, what's wrong? I thought you already went back ahead of me."
While Manaka was occupied and busy fretting over the mishap, unbeknownst to her the screen began to flood with various information.
