Derek was on one side sitting on an antique-looking chair, while I was on the opposite side still on the throne made of bones.
The chairs on the sides were empty and an ominous-looking scroll was seen on the table in front of Derek.
We were both looking at each other in silence, though it was broken a few dozen seconds later by Derek asking nervously.
"Your highness, may I ask you to answer my inquiries?"
'Oh? This development is getting a little interesting...'
"As I'm currently bored, Sure, why not? though I will only answer 3 of your questions so make it count. Oh right! Just so you know, I also won't answer questions related to specific information about me." I said while feeling interested in his questions.
Hearing this Derek felt a little excited as he had always been curious to know more about other races, after all, he had always been staying in this town and only saw a limited number of members of other races.
He wished to see more as he had only seen, beastfolk slaves, monsters, and wild beasts in the yearly beast tide.
Seeing his excited expression, I decided to use this chance to make him sign the contract faster as I remembered the promise to eat plenty of food with Kereina.
"Well, I'll answer your questions after we had finalized the contract. For now, you better look at the terms of the contract in front of you after all you don't want to be cheated right?" I said as I thought that the following situations would be a little boring.
Derek just nodded and didn't speak as he grabbed the contract, he read everything carefully as there might be a trap placed somewhere on it that might sort of lessen his freedom.
The contract stated plenty of words, but if it were summarized it would look something like this:
1. The contractor and contractee mustn't hurt each other in any way possible, as the contract will be voided instantaneously.
2. If the contract is signed by both parties, the contractor must help the contractee with his request as best as he can.
3. The contractee must offer an exact amount of value to the contractor or your soul will be either damned or enslaved for eternity.
4. The contract will only be voided if the contractor fulfills the request of the contractee, if both parties are after each other's lives, or if the contractee is satisfied with the accomplishment of the contractor.
5. If the contractee dies in the mortal world, his soul will be collected by the devil referred to as "Blake Claus".
6. The contractor will only ensure the contractee's life if he always follows the contractor's orders as long as it's not against his morals.
...
He just kept reading it in silence for a dozen minutes, As he kept starting at the beginning every 2 minutes or so.
Seeing this I just sighed internally as I saw this, As I would also do the same if I were in his shoes.
A few seconds later, he finally finished reading the contract one last time.
He just gazed at me warily and asked as confusion was visible on his face.
"Your majesty, Everything is alright with this contract, but why does it state that I would need to follow every order that you would give me?"
Hearing this, I felt a little annoyed and wanted to teach him a lesson, though I just ignored this feeling and said in a cold voice.
"Looks like you don't understand what's happening here, You are the one that needs my help and not the other way around." I also eyed him coldly while I also blamed him for ruining my good mood.
Just as he was about to ask what I meant by that, he suddenly remembered his current condition.
He was poisoned, his mana circuit was destroyed, and he lost his position as an heir, he was betrayed by his friend and lover, and he lost everything except for knowledge and his mother.
And here he was asking for more just as he was about to receive another chance to correct his mistake while also having the chance to grow stronger and might even reach godhood as the devil in front of him said.
He didn't exactly have any complaints against the contract, it's just that he is against lessening his freedom. Though, it's not like he has any choice in this matter.
Seeing him completely hesitant, I decided to just say my motive completely while also maintaining a good but cold image in his mind at the same time.
*Hmph*
"Don't worry too much, I want to make my very own clan you see. So, I just want you to be my butler and nothing more, you can do whatever you want as long as you do your job."
Though I wanted to make a clan, I didn't lie to him as I said the truth, well, half the truth to be exact... I also want him to become my handyman of some sort as I find it very boring.
Hearing this, his hesitation disappeared as he decided to sign the contract even if he knows he can't completely trust the devil.
He had read plenty of things about devils, It's said that they can't come to the mortal realm if they aren't summoned or if they are without a contract. They have a strong affinity with Blood, Shadow, War, etc.
'For him to be able to come to the mortal realm as he pleases, looks like he is either unique or an abnormality in his kind. Will this be a decision that I will regret in the future? well, maybe... But for now? It's the best one I could make...' Derek thought as he was clueless that something inside of him changed or rekindled to be exact.
While unaware of this, I just stared at him as I looked at him holding a pen right in front of the contract.
A smile couldn't help but be seen on my face as he began signing the contract with determination.
